–Sock
Sock is a Raposa that is a main character in Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter. He is met in Watersong and offers to help the Rapoville refugees. He quickly becomes part of their quest to stop Wilfre and becomes a good friend of Jowee's. When Mari goes missing, Sock acts as Jowee's right-hand man all throughout Lavasteam and Galactic Jungle. However, once leaving the Jungle, Sock steals Heather's Pendant and throws it into the sea, revealing himself to have always been a disguise of Wilfre.
Appearance[edit]
Sock is an orange-furred male Raposa. He wears a signature green sock on his head. This sock also has a yellow cuff and a yellow patch. He also wears red overalls with a yellow undershirt.
In his official art shows him in a long-sleeved, green and yellow shirt that is similar to his cap. In this depiction, he also wears green shorts.
Story[edit]
Watersong[edit]
Sock first appears after Mari, Jowee, and the Hero encounter Miles and Salem. Shortly after this, Sock appears and is terrified of the Hero, calling them an alien. Sock tells the group that he was sucked into a white portal and ended up in Watersong, so the group lets him come with them, and they continue helping out around Watersong. As Mari goes to speak with Mayor Rose, Jowee, Sock, and the Hero are recruited to restore Color to both Canal Royale and Rhythmic Reef.
After both of these spaces are restored, Sock, Jowee, and the Hero encounter Miles once more, and they send the Hero to chase him through Jivin' Rooftops. After they capture him, Miles explains the story of Rose losing the Power of Song to Salem, and how the Promise Conch would be needed to save her. Sock is absent when Salem gloats to the group, and when he returns, he tells the group to try the gondolas in the village. The group tells him that they are going to The Abyss, so Sock elects to not go with them.
After the Hero obtains the Promise Conch from The Abyss, Sock tries to take a look at it but is told to stay back and let the Creator work. After Rose has her voice restored, Sock, Jowee, the Hero, and Miles are sent outside to play while Mari and Rose talk. After leaving Watersong, Sock is inspected by Crazy Barks, who sniffs him and immediately runs off. Sock does not come with Mari, Jowee, and the Hero when they discover Salem's true identify as Wilfre or when fighting Baki Beard.
Lavasteam[edit]
Sock is next seen helping search for Mari when she vanishes. That night, when no one could find her, Sock meets with Jowee on Turtle Rock's balcony. He tells Jowee that he understands his pain and confirms that he's making the right decision to go after her. He then tells Jowee a story of a time he chased his own love around the world, no matter what. He tells Jowee that it was worth it, and promises to be there to help him. The next morning, Turtle Rock docks at Lavasteam, and Sock, Jowee, and the Hero are met by Miney, who immediately sends them into Crystal Caverns to mine Banya Crystals. After they escape, Sock tries to get Jowee to leave, but he happens to see Mari running into an uncolored Mine Cart Mayhem. Sock tells Jowee what he saw, and they send the Hero into the level to find her.
After taking a train to Lavasteam's second page, Sock, Jowee, and the Hero meet Rocko, who tries to tell them off. However, after restoring color to the ground, he directs the group to the Magma Flow Factory to find Key. After all the Robosa are driven mad by Miney, Sock suggests that the villagers board Turtle Rock and travel to a new village. However, Jowee dismisses this idea and the group goes on to defeat the Giant Robosa. After the next location is revealed by Heather's Pendant, Sock goes around to tell the other villagers where they were headed.
Galactic Jungle[edit]
Before the group can enter the Galactic Jungle, Mari appears on Turtle Rock and begins tearing out pages of the Book of Life. Sock, as well as other villagers, attempt to block her in, but she jumps into one of Wilfre's white portals. The villagers express their concerns about continuing with a destroyed Book and no mayor, but they rally behind Jowee, who keeps pushing forward. Once Sock, Jowee, and the Hero begin exploring the Galactic Jungle, they try to meet with The Council to ask for help, but they are run in circles by Click. Eventually, they decide to meet with The Council without Click's help, creating the Shooter Ship to fly to the top of the DOT ROT POT USF.
Once on the top floor, Jowee and Sock search for Click while the Hero explores the various levels. Eventually, after Click is supposedly banished, Jowee resolves to get into the Council Room regardless. The three of them break into Treetop Turrets and face off against the Queen and King. After defeating them, the three heroes find the entrance to The Council Room. Before they make it inside, they are confronted by the entire S.P.U.D. force and are told to leave. However, after the force begins counting down, nothing happens and they are revealed as holograms. Sock, Jowee, and the Hero are once more told to leave, but Jowee and the Hero eventually find Click hiding behind a curtain.
Although they had helped the Galactic Jungle, they had come no closer to finding Mari, so when Heather's Pendant fails to reveal a new location, Sock asks to see it. Once he has it, he begins sneaking out of the Map Room while the villagers suspect Jowee of working with Wilfre. Jowee asks for the Pendant back, but finds that Sock had run away. After chasing him down to the edge of Turtle Rock, the villagers ask for the Pendant back, but are shocked to see Sock throw it off the edge. Sock begins gloating, telling them that nothing can help them any more, and he reveals himself to be Wilfre, dropping his signature cap on the ground.
Wilfre mocks the Raposa, who still don't fully believe that there never was a "Sock" to begin with. He also tells them that they would never find his castle, and he vanishes into a white portal, levaing his old cap behind. Crazy Barks would go on to use the cap to guide Turtle Rock to the Wasteland, and Sock would appear once more in Wilfre's defeat animation.
Quotes[edit]
Trivia[edit]
- Strangely, Sock pointed out Mari to Jowee at Lavasteam, despite the fact that he was Wilfre.
- He may have done this in order to seem more helpful and therefore less suspicious.
- It is also possible the whole event was a plan Mari and Wilfre came up with to make the Hero and Jowee trust Sock more.
- This instance, as well as every other scene with Mari after her betrayal, may also have been a way for the developers to prove that Wilfre never transformed into Mari, as every scene with Mari also has Sock.
- Sock, when introducing himself, says that his home village lost its color; this is technically true since he is Wilfre in disguise, and both Rapoville and Wilfre's Wasteland had lost their color.
- Sock once stated that he "chased the love of his life around the world" to Jowee. This could possibly mean that Wilfre at one point had a lover that he chased around the world.
- He may also have been lying in order to gain Jowee's trust.
- This statement could also be interpreted as continuity with Wii version of the game where Circi states that she loves Wilfre, implying that the two were lovers at some point.
- Due to fact the Wii game is not canon, this is unlikely.
- Another possible interpretation is that the "love of his life" may not refer to a physical person; it may refer to his goals and ambitions as Wilfre, which he really did travel all over the world and disregard all consequences to achieve.
- Sock's name in the French version is Socquette, which is a smaller, ankle sock.
- Sock's ears are facing the wrong direction on his back sprites.
- They are also smaller and in a different position in his side sprites.
- For unknown reasons, Sock's hat has a pom-pom when Crazy Barks uses it as a sail, while in his sprites and concept art its a stitched patch.
- Sock is one of the few characters who's names are English words that didn't have it's name translated in the Spanish version.
- Like Wilfre's other disguise, Salem, Sock is only used in Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter.
- Sock's hat always points to Wilfre's Wasteland when blowing in the wind.
