The Lavasteam Royal Guard is a group of military-like Raposa in Lavasteam whose goal is to protect the Raposa and enforce the law. There are two known divisions of the guard, one which works on the mainland, and one which works on Ex-Isle. These two groups swap where they work every month. Both the Lavasteam and Watersong Royal Guard have similar structures to the chain of command of a fire department.

The Deputy Chiefs are two, high ranking members of the guard. The Deputies are typically directly appointed by the Chief, and they don't necessarily have to be members of the guard before their promoting, although the only known Ruler to do this is Miney. One Deputy resides over Operations, while the other resides over Engineering. The Deputy Chief of Operations is responsible for setting up training programs, handling the interviewing process, and stationing, among other roles. Ascending the chain of command, these three ranks are Lieutenants, Captains, and Battalion Chiefs. Lieutenants are responsible for supervising the basic levels, going on more dangerous calls, and knowing more complex skills than the basic levels. However, they are still required to do everything the basic level guards do. Captains are responsible for making administrative decisions for the active shift, speaking with the public, and being more professional than their subordinate, along with the responsibilities of Lieutenants and the basic levels. Battalion Chiefs are the highest ranking members that are active-duty, and their responsibilities include managing the guard below them, meeting with the Deputy Chiefs and Chief, and making sure everyone who is supposed to be on duty shows up to work, along with the responsibilities of the lower ranks.

On Ex-Isle, Shift A Battalion Chiefs have a more mayoral role, staying on-call 24/7, making announcements to the exiles and other guard, setting curfews, and managing attempted escapes. Shift B and C Battalion Chiefs have similar duties, but are functionally just more experienced Captains. The lower Battalion Chiefs can be promoted to Shift A in the event of death or exile of said Chief, as seen with Terra.

The Lavasteam Royal Guard is a group created by GuyThatExists that appears in the short stories The Lavasteam Chronicles Part Two, The Lavasteam Chronicles Part Three, and The 35. They are a group of police-like Raposa in Lavasteam whose goal is to protect the Raposa and enforce the law. There are two known divisions of the guard, one which works on the mainland, and one which works on Ex-Isle. They were heavily involved in the war against Allight.

Book Icon.png Original Structure[edit]

Chief[edit]

The chief of the Lavasteam Royal Guard is the Ruler of Lavasteam. The Ruler's advisor can also take responsibilities of the Chief, as seen with Salem in The Lavasteam Chronicles Part Two. The main responsibilities of the Chief include controlling pay, stationing, training, doing routine check-ins on Ex-Isle, along with all the duties of Ruler.

Deputy Chiefs[edit]

The Deputy Chief is a high ranking member of the guard. The Deputy is typically directly appointed by the Chief, but they don't necessarily have to be a member of the guard before their promotion. The Deputy Chief is responsible for setting up training programs, handling the interviewing process, and stationing recommendations, among other roles.

Specific Roles[edit]

Below the Deputy Chiefs, the ranks are divided into three shifts, and each shift works a different amount of time based on how skilled the members are and how long the members have been working with the guard. If the guard member works on Ex-Isle, then their off days off are spent in a section of the island that is separated from the exiles.

Basic Levels[edit]

The basic levels of the guard are simply called Guards and Probies. These members are responsible for carrying out the duties given to them by superiors, along with managing the scenes they are called to. Probies are the newest recruits of the guard, and are undergoing on site training on both Ex-Isle and the mainland. After this training, they are promoted to Guards.

Book Icon.png Revised Structure[edit]

After the events of The Lavasteam Chronicles Part Three, Miney and Rose met to restructure both Royal Guards and reevaluate the sentences of the current exiles. Their new structure is as follows.

Chief[edit]

The role of Chief in the Lavasteam Royal Guard is largely unchanged, being the head of state for the village. They are still responsible for controlling pay, stationing, employee check-ins, and they work tandem with their Battalion Chiefs to handle hiring.

Battalion Chief[edit]

The role of Deputy has been removed in favor of two Battalion Chiefs - one for the mainland guard and one for Ex-Isle.

The Battalion Chief of the Mainland is responsible for taking reports from villagers and handling incoming volunteers and employees. They work directly under the Chief and are typically sent to distress calls in the village.

The Battalion Chief of Ex-Isle is responsible for coordinating the guards and exiles on Ex-Isle, and they work very closely with Watersong's Battalion Chief of Ex-Isle. They spend most of their time on Ex-Isle, though they tend to visit the mainland to meet with the Chief.

Guards[edit]

Below Battalion Chiefs are the guards themselves. Guards can be either volunteers or employees. Employed Guards are typically found on Ex-Isle, though they can be stationed on the mainland for potentially dangerous situations. Employed Guards on Ex-Isle work every day, with some on day shifts and some on night shifts. Regardless, Employed Guards report to the Battalion Chief of Ex-Isle.

Volunteer Guards are only stationed on the mainland and work much less than employed guards. Typically, they are sent to distress calls as needed and report to the Battalion Chief of the Mainland. Volunteer Guards who perform well can be extended an employed position.

Gears.png Crest[edit]

The Lavasteam Royal Guard's crest is made up of four parts - the minecart, the spears, the Robosa, and the volcano. The minecart filled with Banya Crystals represents Lavasteams industry and the hard work of the citizens. The crossed spears represent the duty of the Royal Guard to protect the citizens of Lavasteam. The Robosa represents the resourcefulness of the Royal Guard, using technology to their advantage. The volcano in the background represent the violent nature of the world, and reminds the Royal Guard to stay strong and navigate the change instead of fighting it.

Kacha Shift A Battalion Chief In stark contrast to Terra, Kacha was one of the kindest Battalion Chiefs on Ex-Isle, although she still carried out her duties and wasn't afraid to stand up to exiles. She was exiled herself when she was caught helping Byetts escape the island.
Terra Shift A Battalion Chief Terra is one of the more ruthless Battalion Chiefs, taking the position after Kacha had been exiled. He treats the exiles as less than Raposa, cutting their serving sizes, ignoring how the exiles treat each other, among other cruel treatment. He also blindly follows Salem, who acted as Chief during his visit to Ex-Isle, causing the kidnapping of Robigo and Salem's attack on the island. He was eventually fired and exiled due to his malicious treatment of the exiles.
