With her abilities as a magician realized, Veila was entrusted by the village leader with the [[Fanon:Book of Life|Book of Life*]]. This book, which was found by the village leader shortly after her creation, contained boundless information pertaining to their [[Fanon:Neve|world]] and basic doctrine for the Raposa, but otherwise served no known use. Accepting the gift, Veila took the Book in for study, understanding it as a creation artifact.

Though the schematics portrayed the box alight with flame, all attempts to kindle a fire within it failed as powerful gusts of wind would soon-after extinguish all efforts. With the village exhausted of ideas, Veila trepidatiously tore the page for fire from the Book of Life and rested it within the pedestal. To the astonishment of the village, the page suddenly ignited, burning a brilliant white flame before the crowd.

Though hailed as a hero, Veila was blind to the praise she accrued. The years she spent oblivious to her blessing left her feeling deeply ashamed, despite her present usefulness. Eager to substantiate her worth, Veila pushed herself to study further: Her high standards grew from her fear of failing to satisfy the basis for her creation.

This revelation lead Veila to conclude that it would be safer to entrust the pages of creation with the Creator rather than with Rapokind. Fearing that one day the Book of Life could fall to the wrong hands, Veila told the village leader of her intentions to return the Book of Life to the [[Eternal Flame]] as she had done with the flame page before it. Seeing the Book as the reason for the Raposas' continued survival, the leader resisted Veila's idea, but trusted her judgment.

Despite her blessings, Veila was only a Raposa. Seasons passed since her unveiling of the Warp Gates and Veila struggled to produce further boons for her village. By now, many of her friends had moved on from their divine duties, living lives of their own and starting families in the matured village. Yet, Veila found herself unable to move forward, unsure that she had fully honored her duty to her village.

Nevertheless, Attempting to ease her leader's concerns, Veila began work on her final project: The Codex Perditus. A complete document detailing all the spells Veila knew, based on the powers of the Book of Life, the Codex would have the ability to safely carry out spells for even the most inexperienced magicians while reducing the magic cost requirements considerably. In order for such a book to exist, pages from the Book of Life would need to be co-opted.

Veila's focus on her work eventually took a toll on her relationships. Following her move to [[Gearworks]]—where the natural magic levels were higher—visits to friends and village festivals became seldom. Though those close to her urged her to give up on magic, she pressed on nonetheless. Time passed, and Veila, now 19, finally laid the groundwork for her next project: The Codex Perditus. Her old spells were revolutionary but shared a common flaw: They were prohibitive. Useful spells—such as creating Warp Gates—required years of training and an exorbitant magic cost fulfilled; Only a couple could be performed per year.

Taking the Book of Life back to her home in [[Gearworks]], Veila begun the process of creating the spellbook. With the book bound, all that was left was to transfer the magic from the extracted pages into the empty Codex. Though she had taken precautions and started slow, the magic from the combined pages were far more powerful than she estimated. Her soul was overpowered and she quickly lost control over the unstable enchantment as she tried desperately to halt the binding process.

The Codex Perditus would solve both issues. A final memoir, a complete document detailing all the spells Veila knew, the Codex would aid the understanding of even the most inept magic users. However, the tome would serve one larger purpose: to perform incantations on behalf of the user. This meant that even the most expensive spells, such as Warp Gate creation, could be performed efficiently by moderately skilled users without inordinate magic costs. The idea was sound, but it lacked one element: a powerful source of magic to fuel the tome.

The infusion spell backfired. Fueled by the excess magic of the [[Book of Life]], the effect of the binding was amplified. Rather than just absorbing the magic from the few pages, the Codex Perditus absorbed all that was around it, including Veila's soul. By the time the spell concluded, the Codex became hyper-saturated. Composed of more magic than matter, the object became too unstable to remain fixed to the physical realm and vanished into the [[Fanon:Primordial Void|Void]], taking what little remained of Veila along with it.

Unfortunately for Veila, few sources of magic strong enough for her needs existed. The only magical artifacts powerful enough to sustain the Codex were those drawn into being by the Creator, and Veila could only access one: The Book of Life. Using the whole Book would prove excessive, and quickly noticed. So, when she was able, Veila sneaked into the unguarded [[Creation Hall]] and deftly tore one of many blank pages from the Book of Life. Unnoticed, she returned home to the Forest Gate.

Days following the accident, a search party was launched by the village leader. The farthest reaches of the [[Forest Gate]] region were scoured. Although the Book of Life was found, fully intact among the ruble of Veila's home, no trace of Veila was ever identified. The search was eventually called off when [[Mecha Baki]]—one of Veila's experiments—in the area became increasingly more erratic without her guidance. Out of equal parts fear and respect, the villagers sealed off the Gearworks region where it would remain untouched until [[Fanon:Timeline|The Fall]].

With everything needed for the Codex, Veila started work and soon thereafter had a prototype. Now, all that remained was to enchant it using the blank page. Though she was wise enough not to use the whole book, or modify existing pages, Veila still underestimated the power contained within a single page. Overrun with magic Veila attempted to halt the enchantment, but even with her abilities it was too late: The spell was critically unstable.  

Seeing the fate that befell Veila as a sign, the village leader's hesitance toward returning the Book of Life was substantiated. Soon after, the village leader declare herself the first [[Mayor (Position)|Mayor]] and permanently re-homed the Book of Life in [[Village Hall]] where it would remain guarded by future generations of Mayors. Fearing the power of the Book after the loss of Veila, the first Mayor denied everyone access to the Book. Over time, the true purpose of the Book of Life was forgotten, as its power and abilities were never taught to future generations.

Too unstable to exist in the Raposa world any longer, the Codex—and by extension, Veila—vanished into the [[User:BakiDance/Primordial Void|Void]].  

Within the Codex, Veila's consciousness became fragmented and dreamlike. Without a proper body, she lost the ability to feel complex emotions and reason. She was left with only her fear and anger, with little control over her thoughts and actions. As long as the Codex were in the [[Fanon:Primordial Void|Void]], it was unable to interact with reality except during brief windows when the tome was able to maintain a physical form.

While most of these events came and passed with no one discovering the ancient book, those who were unlucky enough to uncover the tome found it possessed by a hostile [[Shadow|Shadow construct]]. Though the soul-powered entity was sluggish and easily fooled, it was responsible for a small handful of disappearances and injuries over the centuries following. Yet, the rarity and random nature of these events made determining a cause difficult to prove. The disorganized accounts of dazed survivors meant that the Shadow being, and the book it guarded, entered public knowledge only as an obscure myth.

600 years after its creation, the Codex Perditus happened across its final victim(s). The Codex materialized before the car of the Heinnen family on their way to a camp-out. The resulting collision led to the deaths of both parents in the front compartment, while [[Fanon:Marzell|Marzell]] and his younger brother survived with heavy injuries. Forcing his way out of the mangled vehicle, Marzell found themselves pursued by the Shadow construct. Desperate to protect his remaining family, Marzell fought his way to the Codex Perditus and destroyed it. The magic stored within the book flooded into the surrounding environment and a small portion—including Veila's soul—was absorbed by Marzell.
