He's from a very tiny island in between Watersong and Lavasteam called Sandust, and has lived in both of those villages as well. The island is much closer to Lavasteam compared to Watersong, so he has more family from there. Lavasteam also makes Doug's home island very dusty. Doug, wanting to get out of his dusty hometown, went to live in Watersong to study the law.
Doug grew up poor, and wants to advance his career so he can live a more comfortable life for himself. Unfortunately, he has yet to win a single case. And he still has some debt to pay from college. He wants to do what's right, but if it means getting the money he really needs, he'll give anything a shot.
