Primordial Void
The Primordial Void is the domain beyond reality, and where all of reality originates. It is here where the Creator exists as and formed the Book of Creation, the vessel in which the Raposa universe, world, and species, was drawn into. Little is known about the Void, owing to its inherit imperceptibility as a place beyond reality. However, according to accounts from Genesis Raposa—including Veila—it is a boundless, conscious, meta-dimension from which all souls are formed (and return to after death) and acts as the source of all Magic within reality.
Function[edit]
The Void exists beyond the bounds of reality and thus cannot be directly observed by temporal beings. However, some functions of the Void can be speculated upon by indirect observation and accounts from Genesis Raposa, who possessed a unique ability to recall events from before their individual creation.
As a source of life[edit]
From multiple accounts of the Genesis Raposa, the Void is understood as the birthplace of consciousness and the soul. These accounts describe the Void itself as an eternal, conscious, entity from which they were separated from, becoming their own individual when placed within a physical body, giving it life.
In other words, souls are fragments of the Void that have become distinct from it when separated by physical matter. This explains the propensity of souls to become untraceable following the death of the host organism in a process dubbed "soul death"; without a soma, living body or otherwise, souls are unable to maintain their differentiation from the Void and are returned to it. While Raposa souls are able to persist considerably longer without a soma when compared to other organisms (likely owing to the greater strength of a Raposa's soul), once a soul is lost to soul death, it cannot be recovered.
Likewise, this also explains why organisms possessing souls die shortly after their souls become lost or too weak, even if the body itself appears healthy. Though a living body is able to survive without a soul for much longer than a soul without a body, neither part can be considered alive without the other.
As a source of magic[edit]
Though unobservable in its fullest, aspects of the Void can be understood when it intersects with matter. Beyond souls, the Void can be observed through the form of magic. As a force, magic permeates all physical matter everywhere. Though it can interact with matter in various ways, without influence from beings without souls, it often does not. This property of omnipresence implies the Void as intersecting with reality, or encompassing it. This is supported by the creation narrative of reality, where Raposa and their world were drawn into the Book of Creation. This implies that the Raposa universe exists as a part of the Void, just as the Void exists within the Raposa universe in the form of magic.
Trivia[edit]
- The souls of Genesis Raposa are speculated to have been considerably more powerful than those of ordinary Raposa. This theory is supported by the fact that the partial remains of Veila's soul within Marzell was only barely weaker than his own.
- This would also explain how Genesis Raposa were able to remember the conditions of the Void before creation and possessed greater intuition after the fact, despite that their bodies were genetically no different than those of ordinary Raposa.
- In cases where a Raposa were to lose their soul—often due to it becoming too weak to maintain control over the soma—the individual loses consciousness and enters a coma-like state. Although it is possible to recover from this condition, survival is rare without medical intervention. With medical care, as long as the soul isn't separated from the body, or otherwise "killed", recovery is probable.
- The Creator is likely the Void itself, as the group conscious in which all life is derived.
