Days following the accident, a search party was launched by the Mayor. The farthest reaches of the Forest Gate region were scoured, yet no trace of Veila was ever identified. The search was eventually called off when Mecha Baki—one of Veila's experiments—in the area became increasingly more erratic without her guidance. Out of equal parts fear and respect, the villagers sealed off the Gearworks region where it would remain untouched until The Fall.

Within the Codex, Veila's consciousness became fragmented and dreamlike. Without a proper body, she lost the ability to feel complex emotions and reason. She was left with only her fear and anger, with little control over her thoughts and actions. As long as the Codex were in the Void, it was unable to interact with reality.

However, for a few hours once every century—during the Great conjunction when the Void and reality temporarily intersect—the Codex Perditus was able to once again cross into the Raposa world. While most of these events came and passed with no one discovering the book, those who would encountered a hostile Shadow construct emanating from it. Though the soul-powered entity was sluggish and easily fooled, it was responsible for a small handful of disappearances and injuries within subsequent 100-year windows. Yet, its rarity made such events difficult to prove, cementing the Codex and the monster within it as a myth or folk tale.

600 years after its creation, the Codex Perditus happened across its final victim(s). The Codex materialized before the car of the Heinnen family on their way to a camping location, the resulting shock-wave and flash causing the vehicle to crash. Marzell Heinnen and his younger brother survived with injuries, but were pursued by the Shadow creature. Desperate to protect his brother, Marzell made his way to the Codex Perditus and ripped it apart. The magic stored within the book poured out into the environment around it, but a small fraction of the magic—including Veila's soul—was absorbed my Marzell instead.
