It is not known if or how these crystals are related to [[Banya]] and whether or not they are edible. However, some characters imply that they are.

According to many of the workers of [[Lavasteam]], they had been mining for days on end with no breaks. When [[Jowee]], [[Sock]], and the [[Hero]] first arrive, Miney forces them to mine for Banya Crystals in [[Crystal Caverns]] before he would tell them where [[Cookie]], [[Farmer Brown]], and [[Count Choco]] were working. Eventually, Miney's and Salem's plans are undone by the combined efforts of Jowee, the Hero, [[Key]], and [[Moe]]. It is unknown what part Banya Crystals played in the Lavasteam economy after this point.
