[[Shadow Goo]] is used excessively in this level. The final boss is [[Wilfre]], along with his [[Wilfre's Scorpion|scorpion]]. Wilfre's Scorpion is the first half of the battle, and after the scorpion is defeated, [[Hero|The Hero]] faces Wilfre.

* [[Drawn to Life Credits|Jeremiah Slaczka]] states in the [[Developer's Grove]] that there is a hidden flower which will save the [[Mayor]] in this level. However, this is not true, as confirmed by [[Drawn to Life Credits|Joseph Tringali]] in the Developer's Grove.
* Wilfre takes 13 hits to defeat in his fight. This may be intentional, as 13 is seen as an unlucky number in many cultures.
* It is possible that the Shadow Lair may just be one giant [[Shadow]] creature given its appearance on the minimap, the apparent shadow goo coating the level, and the various eyes dotted around the level.
* It is currently unknown if the Shadow Lair and [[Wilfre's Lair]] were meant to be the same area.
* Despite the [[City Gate]] only having real levels, Shadow Lair is labelled as "4-5". This is due to the game counting the [[Secret Door]] icon as its own level on the map, forcing Shadow Lair to be displayed as "4-5".
