Raposa Fur Colors
Raposa Fur Colors are similar to real world hair colors when it comes to genetics. They are dictated by two fur color genes, each from one parent, although the shade of the Raposa's fur (i.e. light brown vs. dark brown) can vary based on environmental and developmental factors. Male and female Raposa utilize the hair genes differently, due to the fact that all female Raposa are orange, with one exception.
In males, the more dominant fur gene is realized in their entire bodies. Their fur covers their ears, the edges of their faces, the back of their heads, and their entire body below the neck. In some males, as they age, their less dominant fur color starts to show through their more dominant hair color. This can happen at any point in a male Raposa's life, and can happen gradually (i.e. Moe) or all at once (i.e. Cookie or NavyJ).
In females, their fur is always orange due to a fur-color inhibitor present in X chromosomes, so the more dominant fur gene is realized in their hair (i.e. Mari's brown hair/Dr. Cure's dark grey hair). When a female Raposa grows old, their hair tends to turn white, so it is unknown which Elder Female Raposa have white hair due to genetics and which have white hair due to old age.
Some non-female Raposa may also have hair, although this is quite rare outside of Watersong, and typically indicates that the Raposa is non-binary. In Watersong however, many Raposa are assumed to be wearing wigs due to the village having a very European style.
Census of Fur Colors[edit]
This list of possible fur colors was found by taking a census of 100 canon Raposa and made by Guy's OC Raposa. This census was taken on April 7th, 2021.
Stipulations[edit]
- For male Raposa:
- If they change fur colors, their fur color was marked as orange
- For female Raposa:
- It is assumed that their hair color is their most dominant gene
- White haired Raposa were counted as such
- Athys was counted as a Rust-Furred Raposa
- For Watersong, Lavasteam, and Galactic Jungle Raposa:
- Raposa that can only be found in cutscenes (i.e. the Elder Male Raposa seen at the party in Watersong) were not counted
- For male Raposa:
- It is assumed that their fur color is seen in their fur and that their hair is a wig or displays their recessive gene
- For female Raposa:
- It is assumed that their hair color is natural and not dyed
- For male Raposa:
- Raposa that can only be found in cutscenes (i.e. the Elder Male Raposa seen at the party in Watersong) were not counted
- Generic Raposa Characters and OCs involved in Project Overhaul were not counted in this census
- Salem, Sock, and the S.P.U.D. were excluded, as they are disguises for Wilfre and Click
- Milfre was excluded
- Samuel was excluded
- Despite being Rust-Furred, Spike was counted with Dark Grey Fur, as his canon appearance takes precedent over his AU appearance in this census
- Salem Rose was excluded, as Miles was already counted in the census
- Raposa seen in Wilfre's Wasteland were excluded, as it it likely that they are Ameba in disguise
- Raposa that live in The Void were excluded
- The "?"s on the Lavasteam Royalty's Family Tree were counted in this census
List of Fur Colors[edit]
Below is a list of all the known types of fur colors listed from most to least dominant based on the census:
- Dominant Gene:
- Orange Fur
- In female Raposa, since their fur is already orange, their hair color is determined by their other fur gene.
- If their other fur gene is also orange, they have a shade of ginger hair.
- In female Raposa, since their fur is already orange, their hair color is determined by their other fur gene.
- Orange Fur
- Recessive Gene:
- Brown Fur
- Light Grey Fur
- Yellow Fur
- Dark Grey Fur
- Tan Fur
- White Fur
- It is unknown which of the Raposa with white fur/hair have it because of genes or age.
Special Cases[edit]
- Blue Fur
- Pink Fur
- Although Blue and Pink fur had more occurrences than Tan and White fur, they will be listed lower due to the higher chance that these colors were influenced by dyes.
- Rust Fur (Read More about Rust-Furred Raposa here)
- As Rust Fur is a mutation, it has been designated as the least common despite having more occurrences in the census than Blue, Pink, Tan, and White fur.

Trivia[edit]
- Because Milfre is made of color, she technically has no genes whatsoever.
- However, she can have children as seen on Circi's Family Tree.
