Elodie’s one of the nicer guards, so no telling where all your stuff will end up.

The Watersong Royal Guard is a group created by GuyThatExists that appears in the short stories The Lavasteam Chronicles Part One, The Lavasteam Chronicles Part Two, The Lavasteam Chronicles Part Three, and The 35. They are a group of of police-like Raposa in Watersong whose goal is to protect the Raposa and enforce the law. There are two known divisions of the guard, one which works on the mainland, and one which works on Ex-Isle. They were heavily involved in the war against Allight and are currently attempting to stop the All-Lite trade.

Book Icon.png Original Structure[edit]

Chief[edit]

The chief of the Watersong Royal Guard is the current Mayor of Watersong. The Mayor's advisor can also take responsibilities of the Chief. The main responsibilities of the Chief include controlling pay, stationing, doing routine check-ins on Ex-Isle, along with all the duties of Ruler.

Deputy Chief[edit]

The Deputy Chief is a high ranking member of the guard. The Deputy is typically directly appointed by the Chief, but they don't necessarily have to be a member of the guard before their promotion. The Deputy Chief is responsible for setting up training programs, handling the interviewing process, and stationing recommendations, among other roles.

Specific Roles[edit]

Below the Deputy Chiefs, the ranks are divided into three shifts, and each shift works a different amount of time based on how skilled the members are and how long the members have been working with the guard. If the guard member works on Ex-Isle, then their off days off are spent in a section of the island that is separated from the exiles.

Ascending the chain of command, these three ranks are Lieutenants, Captains, and Battalion Chiefs. Lieutenants are responsible for supervising the basic levels, going on more dangerous calls, and knowing more complex skills than the basic levels. However, they are still required to do everything the basic level guards do. Captains are responsible for making administrative decisions for the active shift, speaking with the public, and being more professional than their subordinate, along with the responsibilities of Lieutenants and the basic levels. Battalion Chiefs are the highest ranking members that are active-duty, and their responsibilities include managing the guard below them, meeting with the Deputy Chiefs and Chief, and making sure everyone who is supposed to be on duty shows up to work, along with the responsibilities of the lower ranks.

On Ex-Isle, Shift A Battalion Chiefs have a more mayoral role, staying on-call 24/7, making announcements to the exiles and other guard, setting curfews, and managing attempted escapes. Shift B and C Battalion Chiefs have similar duties, but are functionally just more experienced Captains. The lower Battalion Chiefs can be promoted to Shift A in the event of death or exile of said Chief, as seen with Terra.

Basic Levels[edit]

The basic levels of the guard are simply called Guards and Probies. These members are responsible for carrying out the duties given to them by superiors, along with managing the scenes they are called to. Probies are the newest recruits of the guard, and are undergoing on site training on both Ex-Isle and the mainland. After this training, they are promoted to Guards.

Book Icon.png Revised Structure[edit]

After the events of The Lavasteam Chronicles Part Three, Rose and Miney met to restructure both Royal Guards and reevaluate the sentences of the current exiles. Their new structure is as follows.

Chief[edit]

The role of Chief in the Watersong Royal Guard is largely unchanged, being the head of state for the village. They are still responsible for controlling pay, stationing, employee check-ins, and they work tandem with their Battalion Chiefs to handle hiring.

Battalion Chief[edit]

The role of Deputy has been removed in favor of two Battalion Chiefs - one for the mainland guard and one for Ex-Isle.

The Battalion Chief of the Mainland is responsible for taking reports from villagers and handling incoming volunteers and employees. They work directly under the Chief and are typically sent to distress calls in the village.

The Battalion Chief of Ex-Isle is responsible for coordinating the guards and exiles on Ex-Isle, and they work very closely with Lavasteam's Battalion Chief of Ex-Isle. They spend most of their time on Ex-Isle, though they tend to visit the mainland to meet with the Chief.

Guards[edit]

Below Battalion Chiefs are the guards themselves. Guards can be either volunteers or employees. Employed Guards are typically found on Ex-Isle, though they can be stationed on the mainland for potentially dangerous situations, such as Juliette busting the All-Lite production facility. Employed Guards on Ex-Isle work every day, with some on day shifts and some on night shifts. Regardless, Employed Guards report to the Battalion Chief of Ex-Isle.

Volunteer Guards are only stationed on the mainland and work much less than employed guards. Typically, they are sent to distress calls as needed and report to the Battalion Chief of the Mainland. Volunteer Guards who perform well can be extended an employed position, such as Colepere.

Gears.png Crest[edit]

The Watersong Royal Guard's crest is made up of four parts - the lyre, the spears, the Promise Conch, and the waves. The lyre and two eighth notes represent the music of Watersong and the power it gives its residents. The crossed spears represent the duty of the Royal Guard to protect the citizens of Watersong. The Promise Conch represents the oath each member of the Royal Guard takes to honor Watersong and its citizens. The waves in the background represent the changing nature of the world, and remind the Royal Guard to not fight it as the waves will always win.

Name Rank Notes
Rose Chief Rose, much like Miney, took a very hands-off approach to the guard, although she did reform the mainland guard to be a small group of her trusted friends. This is the only known instance of the guard being replaced by another group. After the restructuring of the guard, Rose became more hands on with assistance from Karat.
Elodie Battalion Chief of the Mainland Elodie was more neutral than the other two known Shift A Battalion Chiefs, although she was harsh with Raposa she did not know or care for. After watching the exiles and guards be interviewed by Salem, she grew suspicious of her job. She watched Robigo get kidnapped, and she fought against Wilfre when he attacked. After the attack, but before Allight was released, she left Ex-Isle on Baki Beard's Revenge. After the restructuring, Elodie's rank was changed to Battalion Chief of the Mainland.
Juliette Employed Guard Not much is known about Juliette before the restructuring, but it is known that she had just become a Guard when Salem kidnapped her and replaced her with an Ameba. After Salem's attack on the island, they were one of the many Raposa to be influenced by Allight. After the restructuring, Juliette was finally given a chance to shine, and she became a valuable member of the Guard, working on both the Mainland and Ex-Isle. She was one of two guards to raid an All-Lite production facility.
Colepere Employed Guard After his experience as an exile, Colepere joined the guard as a volunteer, though thanks to his efforts, he was extended an employment offer by Rose and Elodie. As an employed guard, he brought Karat to Ex-Isle after they were discharged, and he assisted a raid on an All-Lite production facility.
Robespierre Volunteer Guard Robespierre is one of Rose's trusted friends, and she was appointed to the guard before Salem's attack. After the restructuring, he helps return pardoned exiles to the mainland after the restructuring of the guard.
Leopold Volunteer Guard Leopold is one of Rose's trusted friends, and he lead the group during Galileo and Eeny's visit. He is the only known member of the mainland guard to be appointed after Salem's attack.
Antoinette Volunteer Guard Antoinette is one of Rose's trusted friends, and she was appointed to the guard before Salem's attack.
Desiree Volunteer Guard Desiree is one of Rose's trusted friends, and she was appointed to the guard before Salem's attack.
Francois Volunteer Guard Francois is one of Rose's trusted friends, and she was appointed to the guard before Salem's attack.

Name Rank Notes
Sigil Captain Not much is known about Sigil's time as a Captain, as they were one of the first guards to be kidnapped and replaced by an Ameba. After Salem's attack on the island, they were one of the many Raposa to be influenced by Allight. They were killed during a battle in Lavasteam as payback for killing the Hero.
Butler Deputy Chief Instead of acting as a Chief, Butler was appointed to be a Deputy Chief by Rose. He takes his role very seriously, talking with the Battalion Chiefs directly and dispatching the mainland guard to certain events, such as sending them to apprehend Galileo. After the restructuring, Butler was removed from the Guard, but continues to work closely with them.
Karat Battalion Chief of Ex-Isle Not much is known about Karat's time as a Battalion Chief before the restructuring, as they were kidnapped and replaced by an Ameba. After Salem's attack on the island, they were one of the many Raposa to be influenced by Allight. After the restructuring of the guard, Karat was promoted to Battalion Chief of Ex-Isle, and worked closely with Rose and Mog to improve the island. After they became addicted to All-Lite and became a dealer, they was discharged from the guard.

Trivia[edit]

  • The crest of the Watersong Royal Guard was inspired by the Cross of Saint Florian, the base for the emblem of the fire department in the United States.
