it's about doing what is right.”
–Mari
Mari is one of the main characters throughout the entire Drawn to Life Series. She is the daughter of Mayor, and succeeded him, becoming the eighth mayor of Rapoville. She is also Jowee's finacee, as the two are currently engaged. We meet Mari as a lonely girl in Rapoville, praying to the Creator, asking for them to return to the Raposa world. He agreees to help her, granting her a Hero, and she begins to help restore the world. During this time, she is unwillingly training to become mayor, and is thrust into the role after Wilfre killed her father. Mari is filled with rage towards the Hero and the Creator, but after learning that Wilfre was defeated, she apologizes and asks the Creator to sign their name into the Book of Life. Mari would later officially become the mayor of the village.
As mayor, Mari helped the village grow to new bounds, and all of the villagers began to rely on her. However, when Heather goes missing and the Color begins to drain from the world, Mari watches as a revived Wilfre kidnaps most of the villagers and drains the village of its color. She, along with the remaining villagers, escape onto Turtle Rock and sail to Watersong, where Mari meets Mayor Rose. Mari empathizes with her fears of inadequacy, and after saving Watersong from Wilfre, Mari vanishes. In reality, she had defected to join Wilfre in draining the color, so that the Raposa world could live on. However, she is swayed back to the Creator's side when Jowee refuses to join Wilfre. Mari leads the Raposa realm in a prayer for the Hero, and eventually, asks the Creator to wake up Mike.
Four years after Mike awakens, Mari is still running Rapoville. However, the villagers began to get lazy and selfish. She also receives word from a twice-revived, Shadowless Wilfre that the Human realm was in danger, so she asks the Creator for another Hero, giving it the Book of Imagination. Mari would act as a point of connection for both Mike and the Hero as they travelled between Rapoville and Belleview in their quest to stop Aldark's scheme. After Aldark's defeat, Mari and Jowee are warned that Aldark's plans were much more sinister, and that he could come back. Some time later, Jowee proposes to Mari, and the two are engaged.
Personality[edit]
Mari is a determined and strong willed Raposa, being one of the last Raposa to hold onto her faith. However, she is shown to have low-self confidence, not believing that she can be a good mayor for her people. Despite this self-doubt, she puts on a brave face for the Raposa, and is a good leader to her people. She is able to hold onto her faith in the Creator, although her desire to help her villagers was manipulated by Wilfre to sway her to his side at one point. However, she continued to be a strong mayor to her people and put their needs above hers.
Appearance[edit]
Mari is a female Raposa depicted with orange fur and brown wavy hair. She wears a pink scarf with a yellow dress and a pair of earrings.
Story[edit]
Before Drawn to Life[edit]
Mari was born after Wilfre scattered the Book of Life, and as such, never lived with the Creator in her life. As she grew up, she lived with her father, the Mayor, became good friends with Jowee, and started to believe in the Creator. As time passed, Mari noticed the Darkness covering the village, and watched as the entire village left. After some time, she decided that enough was enough and made a prayer to the Creator, begging them to come back.
Drawn to Life[edit]
To her surprise, the Creator responds, telling her that they needed to create a Hero to stop Wilfre, but that Mari needed to gather all the remaining villagers at Creation Hall. In her attempt to gather everyone, she wakes Jowee up, but is unable to stop Isaac and Mya from leaving. She is also unable to convince her father to stay behind, so she takes Jowee to Creation Hall alone. The Creator then decides to unseal the Hall, allowing the two of them inside. Inside the hall, Mari watches as the Creator brings the Hero to life. Mari asks the Hero to find Cindi, and after finding her, the group travels to the Village Entrance.
Snow Gate[edit]
At the entrance, Mari is confronted by Wilfre, a Raposa corrupted by Shadow. Mari learns that Wilfre had kidnapped Mayor, and he blocks the entrance with Darkness, forcing the group to use the Snow Gate to save him. When the Hero returns with the Mayor, Mari watches Cindi run through the Snow Gate to find her parents. When the Hero returns with Isaac's family, Mari listens to her dad recount Wilfre's origins. When the story is finished, Mari asks the Creator to restore the Village Pedestal to bring back the Eternal Flame. After clearing the darkness from Isaac's Shop, Mari shows the Hero the Wishing Well, telling them that something fun might happen if they deposited 10,000 Rapo-Coins.
Mari then asks to meet you at Creation Hall, where she tells you that you can redraw your Creations in Creation Hall. For the next few levels, Mari is seen interacting with the villagers and helping improve morale, such as participating in the Snow Fight, renaming the village, and asking the Hero to find the Rain Clouds for the village. After the Rain Clouds are restored, Mari goes inside Creation Hall, finding a diary written by the previous mayors. The Mayor explains it's purpose and tells Mari that she would soon be the eighth mayor of Rapoville. She reluctantly accepts that her training would begin and goes to find Jowee. However, after she finds him, Wilfre appears once more and threatens her father's life before setting Frostwind onto the village.
Forest Gate[edit]
After Frostwind's defeat, the Hero brings Heather back to the village, and Mari feels sorry for her, as she is clearly scared. Mari then attends a meeting where the villagers are upset that the Sun never sets, and she laments that preparations for the festival were going to begin. Later, as Mari talks to her father, the Hero informs her that Jowee ran through the Forest Gate, frightening Mari. When the Hero returns with Jowee, Mari is relived to see that he's safe, but she's still upset that he seems to be more focused on adventure than spending time with her. For the next few levels, Mari is angry at Jowee but also nervous about the upcoming festival. Despite the Hero finding her for the festival, she hides by the Forest Gate instead of attending.
At the Forest Gate, Jowee apologizes to Mari for running off, explaining that he got her a present, giving her a book about whales. However, Zsasha appears, returning a stolen item to Jowee, allowing Jowee to give Mari her real gift - a flower. Mari is instantly happier, and she agrees to return to the Village Stage for the festival. On the stage, Mari gives a speech praising her dad's time as mayor, and promising the village that she would try her best to live up to him. After the festival, Mari welcomes Galileo's family back to the village and then tries to break up a dispute between Chef Cookie and Isaac. She is unable to resolve their dispute, but before she can try anything else, Wilfre appears again, mocking her and warning the Hero of Deadwood.
Beach Gate[edit]
After the Hero saved Deadwood and returns with Samuel, Mari decides to explore the recently cleared Beach with Jowee. She finds the Template for the Starzooka in a washed up bottle, so she gives it to the Hero. Later, when the beach gets too crowded, Mari goes east and discovers the Secret Beach. She meets with her dad on the beach, and they have the idea to plant some Kori Trees. Later, after getting a laundry list of chores from her dad, she invites Jowee to the secret beach, and the two talk about the Creator. When Heather and the Hero walk in on them, Mari proposes that they build a Statue for the villagers to unite them. After the statue is completed, the village admires it, but Mari notices that Isaac and Cookie are still fighting. This upsets her, and when Indee takes Jowee to the beach to search for treasure, Mari asks the Hero to watch after him. Later, when Pirate Beard docks at the Rapoville Docks, he tries to get Mari to join his crew, but she runs away.
City Gate[edit]
Even later, she welcomes Mike into the village, questioning why his ears look the way they do. After this, she meets Jowee at the secret beach, where she remembers that her dad asked her to make the preparations for a village meeting, so she runs off to tell her dad. At the Village Hall, Mayor tells her that she needs to be more responsible, and she runs off to the secret beach after telling him to pick a new mayor.
At the beach, she laments that she can't go exploring the world, and she refuses to meet with her father about Unagi. She leaves the beach when Jowee gets her, telling her that her dad is in trouble. She runs to the Forest Gate, where Dr. Cure informs her that he had passed on. As everyone else leaves except Jowee and the Hero, she watches as his body fades away. Mari then gets incredibly upset with the Hero, blaming them for her father's death. However, when the creations begin to disappear, Mari finds the resolve to bring the village together with Jowee while the Hero fights Wilfre.
After Wilfre is defeated, Mari inserts the Final Page into the Book of Life, asking the Creator to sign their name in the book while she continues to prepare for her role as mayor. However, while the Hero runs around the village saying goodbye, Mari and Jowee return to the secret beach, and Mari confronts Jowee about wanting to leave the village, telling him that she thinks he should go. He is upset that he can't bring her with him, but Mari says goodbye as he board Pirate Beard's ship. After he leaves, Mari walks around the village reminiscing on their lives together, but it surprised to see that Jowee stayed behind, electing to stay with her in Rapoville.

Some time later, Mari decided to hire Circi, a Raposa who fled Rapoville, as her Deputy Mayor. The two of them worked together for some time when the Book of Life goes missing. Currently overwhelmed by the current affairs of the village, still rebuilding from Wilfre's damages, she asks the Creator to give them a new Hero. The Creator agrees, and a Hero is granted to the village. Hearing from Heather that Crazy Barks took the Book, Mari sends Circi and the Hero to find him. After they find Crazy Barks protecting the Book, Circi asks why the Book is so important, so Mari explains the history of Wilfre and her father to Circi.
Jangala[edit]
After this Mari asks Circi, Jowee, and the Hero if they can help her figure out why various objects were vanishing. Circi and Jowee propose that Zsasha could be behind the thievery, so Mari sends Jowee and the Hero to Jangala to find him. When they return with only his mask, Mari begins to think that Zsasha is innocent, but she urges them to keep looking. However, Isaac's Door is stolen, and while the Hero is recovering it, the Banya crop is stolen. When the crop is restored, Jowee tells her that it was Monkeys stealing things from the village. Mari decides to go ask the Monkey King what was going on, so she sends Jowee and the Hero after him.
Shadow City[edit]
When Jowee and the Hero return from the Treetop Village, they tell Mari that the Monkey King had Zsasha captive. Zsasha recognizes the Crystal Mask that the Monkey King gave them, saying that a Shadowy Figure was trying to steal it, causing Mari to fear that Wilfre had returned. Circi hears this and begins spreading the word of Wilfre's return, so Mari sends the Hero to Shadow City to double check. After finding a Page from Wilfre's Journal, a secret passage into the village, and the restarted Ink Factory, they report to Mari, confirming her suspicions. She then sends Jowee and the Hero into Wilfre's Lair to find out what he was planning.
Icy Wastes[edit]
When Jowee and the Hero return from his lair, now with Wilfre's Journal, a Pen, and a Pencil, Mari reads the journal with Jowee and Circi, learning about the Artifacts of Power - the Crystal Mask, Wilfre's Pen and Pencil, the Eternal Furnace, and Branches from the Tree of Ages. Mari asks Circi to secure the Mask, Pen, and Pencil in Village Hall, and she asks Jowee and the Hero to go hunt down the Eternal Furnace. Jowee and the Hero learn that the Eternal Furnace is in the Icy Wastes, so Mari suggests that they find some Skates to easily travel over the ice.
Suddenly, it begins to snow in Rapoville, despite it being summer. Jowee and the Hero manage to stop the snow and help more around the village. While they are exploring The Baldy Slopes for DJ, Mike returns from a trip, and Mari fills him on what had happened so far. After hearing that Jowee and the Hero were searching for the Eternal Furnace, he runs into the Icy Wastes. Mari sends Jowee and the Hero after him, and when they return, Mari chastises him for running off. Mike reveals that he had a dream of finding the Furnace, so he marks its location on Mari's map.
Eastern Winds[edit]
Unfortunately, Jowee and the Hero are too late, and they watch the Shadowy Figure steal the Eternal Furnace. Mari concludes that this means the Tree of Ages would also be in danger. Mari asks Jowee and the Hero to find Galileo, as he was able to see the Tree of Ages from the Village Observatory. As Jowee and the Hero begin to travel the Land of the Eastern Winds, Mari learns that the Windmill Blades had vanishes, cutting off the village's water supply. After the Creator restores the blades, the electricity in the Lighthouse fails, and after replacing the lights, Mari is informed that DJ and Erika had run off to the Balancing Rock Garden.
When the newlyweds return to Rapoville, Galileo informs Mari that Giant Shadow Bats were spotted above The Drifting Isles, so she sends Jowee and the Hero to the Tree of Ages. Jowee and the Hero return to Rapoville with the Branches from the Tree of Ages, and Mari celebrates, as Wilfre couldn't gather all the Artifacts. Circi decides to take the branches to Village Hall with the other Artifacts, but Mari and Jowee watch her reveal the Eternal Furnace. Circi reveals that she was the Shadowy Figure all along and that Wilfre was still deceased. Circi begins assembling the Artifacts into a Dark Mannequin, and she tries to use it to revive Wilfre. When Circi fails and creates the Giant Scribble Monster, Rapoville is flooded with Shadow, and Mari is stranded on top of Village Hall. She helps the Hero fight the Scribble Monster and the Mannequin, giving them the occasional Heart. After the defeat of the Monster, Mari laments that Wilfre has taken so much from the village, but celebrates with the rest of the village.
Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter[edit]
Some time later, Mari wakes up and is unable to find Heather, so she wakes Jowee up to help her look. The two of them leave Jowee's House but are immediately stopped by a wave of villagers requesting her help around the villagers. Overwhelmed by the large group of Raposa, she asks them to wait and asks if any of them had seen Heather. None of them had, so Mari and Jowee go to Creation Hall and ask the Creator for a Hero. However, right before the Creator can grant their wish, the Color is drained from the mannequin. Mari and Jowee look around in shock, watching as the rest of Creation Hall begins to lose its color. They run out to see the building, along with other parts of the village, completely drained of color.
As the villagers scatter in fear, Wilfre appears to taunt Mari, calling her foolish and telling her that she has no idea why he does what he does. He brushes Mari off, and after he is confronted by the Creator, Mari watches as he kidnaps the villagers, save for Pirate Beard, Crazy Barks, Mike, Isaac, Cindi, Jowee, and herself. Wilfre gets one more taunt in as he portals away using his Scepter, and she watches as Heather is revealed to be trapped underneath Wilfre's Shadow. Heather calls out to them to stop Wilfre and she is taken by the portal, leaving her pendant behind. The remaining villagers group up by the Eternal Flame, but the color begins to drain again, and they run for the Docks.
Turtle Rock[edit]
At the docks, they find that someone stole Pirate Beard's ship, and Mari prays to the Creator for a new ship. Just then, Turtle Rock appears, and everyone jumps on board as the last parts of Rapoville lose their color. On board Turtle Rock, Mari and Jowee find a new Creation Hall, so they go inside to ask for a new Hero. This time, their prayers are answered and a new Hero appears. After learning the Hero's name, Mari notices that Heather's Pendant was glowing in Jowee's pocket. As Jowee pulls it out, he accidentally drops it below Creation Hall, into the Forgotten Library, so Mari asks the Hero to go retrieve it.
When the Hero returns, Mari, Jowee, and Mike are called into the Map Room by Pirate Beard. Inside, the Hero returns the Pendant to Jowee, and Mari watches it mark a location into the map in the center of the room. The Hero sets course to Watersong, and Mari continues to explore what Turtle Rock has to offer. That night, Mari is on Turtle Rock's deck, and when Jowee joins her, she thanks him for staying behind after the events of the first game. He tells her that he couldn't go without her, and accidentally lets slip that they could tell this story to their hypothetical kids. She is shocked by this, and after a bit of wondering about the near future, she goes to bed.
Watersong[edit]
The next morning, when Turtle Rock docks at Watersong, Mari, Jowee, and the Hero go onto the island to find the entire village drained of color, save for a small space where the dock is. As the Hero talks to Madeleine, she mentions a Raposa with silly hair, which Mari recognizes as NavyJ, one of the kidnapped villagers. After telling Madeleine that Rapoville lost its color too, Madeleine hands over her jar of color, and Mari suggests that they restore the boathouse on the beach. The Hero then explores the Faraway Beach to find more color. After coming back with more color, Mari asks the Creator to restore the ground.
After the ground and the gondola port are restored, Gabriel thanks the group for the color and promises to help them meet Mayor Rose. However, the Lighthouse (TNC) had gone missing, so Mari asks the Creator to restore it. After restoring it and sending the Hero to collect the Skylamp Gong, Gabriel takes the group to a different part of Watersong where Rose's Mansion is located. After asking the Creator to restore the ground in this part of the village, Mari, Jowee, and the Hero find Miles being chased by Salem. Miles runs and hides behind the Hero, so Salem leaves Miles with them. Mari asks if he's alright and tries to take him home, but he runs off, running into Sock.
Sock freaks out after seeing the Hero, so Mari and Jowee assure him that the Hero means no harm, and they invite him into their party to help him find his village. The group then finds Rose's Mansion devoid of color, so Mari asks the Creator to restore it. After this, Mari decides to go in alone, so she gives the Book of Life to Jowee. Inside the mansion, she calls out for Mayor Rose, meeting Butler instead. She tells him that she wants to meet about Miles, so Butler brings her to the courtyard to meet Rose.
In the courtyard, Mari learns that Rose had lost her voice, and Butler explains the circumstances of Rose losing her voice in a challenge with Salem. Mari then agrees to help find Miles, since finding the Promise Conch would be near impossible, and Butler urges her to never make promises that she can't keep. Outside the mansion, Mari sees that Jowee, Miles, and the Hero had returned, so they resolve to find the Promise Conch to save Rose. However, Salem appears to taunt the group, telling them that time was ticking and that they would fail. Mari gets annoyed as Miles runs over to where Salem had appeared, finding seaweed that only grows in The Abyss.
Mari, Jowee, and the Hero go to the edge of the sea, searching for The Abyss, but realize they can't make it without a Boat. After receiving a Boat from the Creator, Mari sends the Hero off to The Abyss. When the Hero returns with the Promise Conch, the group runs back to Rose's Mansion, giving the Conch to Butler. Mari asks the Creator to undo the vow on the Conch, and Rose's voice is returned. Rose asks to see Mari in the courtyard, so Mari leaves with Rose and Butler. In the courtyard, Rose reveals that she feels unfit to lead the village, so she plans on transferring the Power of Song to Miles that night. Rose then asks that Mari, Jowee, Sock, and the Hero not be in Watersong for the opera, as it would only make things harder on Miles. Mari reluctantly agrees, and their group boards Turtle Rock to leave Watersong.
Back on Turtle Rock's deck, Mari explains to Jowee what Rose told her. Jowee criticizes her decision, and Mari explains that mayors have to make difficult decisions to best benefit the village. Mari reminisces on her father's death, and determining to prevent Miles from feeling that pain, her, Jowee, and the Hero return to her mansion to stop her from transferring the Power of Song to Miles. They arrive after the Creator had already stopped the process however, arriving just in time to stop Salem and two Ameba from attacking Rose, Miles, and Butler. Mari watches Salem reveal himself to be Wilfre in disguise, but before they can chase him down, Baki Beard crashes into Watersong, so the group deals with keeping the citizens safe.
After dealing with Baki Beard, Mari, Jowee, and the Hero return to Turtle Rock's deck. On the deck, Mari explains how no one understands what she goes through as mayor, and in an attempt to cheer her up, Jowee uses the reset Promise Conch, vowing to protect and support Mari to the best of his ability. He then throws the active Promise Conch into the sea, never to be seen again. Mari seems upset by this, and sometime later that night, she vanishes.
Lavasteam/Galactic Jungle[edit]
Some time that night, Mari encounters Wilfre by some means unknown to the player. During this encounter, Wilfre takes Mari to the Hall of Darkness and shows her what he had learned to get her help. Thanks to the power of the Shadow, Wilfre had learned that the Raposa world was directly linked to the subconscious of Mike. Mike was currently in a coma, and if he woke up, their world would be destroyed. Thus, Wilfre began taking the color from the world in an attempt to keep Mike comatose. Mari was swayed by his argument for the Raposa realm, so she decided to defect to his side.
For the rest of the game, Jowee hunts for Mari, only seeing her two times before the game's climax. Once in Lavasteam, watching her enter an uncolored Mine Cart Mayhem. However, Jowee is unable to catch up to her. Mari is next seen inside Jowee's Room on Turtle Rock, searching for the Book of Life. Jowee walks in and tells her that he held onto it, and he gives it back to Mari. To his shock, Mari begins ripping pages out of the Book of Life, running outside and jumping into one of Wilfre's portals with it.
Wilfre's Wasteland[edit]
Mari is not seen again until the group arrives at Wilfre's Wasteland. When they dock, Mari asks Jowee to leave and let them work, but Jowee refuses to let them work against the Creator. Mari is upset at Jowee for filling in the ground of the village, and he refuses to listen to her or Wilfre, whom she was now working with, so Wilfre kidnaps him to show him the same thing he showed Mari. After the Hero breaks down Wilfre's barrier using the Village Altars and Village Orbs, Mari is swayed back to the Creator's side when Jowee continues to hold faith, despite seeing what Wilfre showed him. Mari then urges the Hero to go fight Wilfre.
As the Hero enters the Hall of Darkness, Mari begins to lead the Raposa world in prayer, asking for all the color to be restored. The Creator does so, allowing the Hero to destroy Wilfre and free Heather. The group decides to return to Rapoville, and Mari explains that she did what she did in the name of the village, but she realized that the Creator's plans involved more than the village. Once returning to Rapoville, the villagers that weren't kidnapped gather around the Eternal Flame, and the Creator taps the flame. Just then, Mike asks Mari what Wilfre showed her in the first place to get her to change sides. Mari reveals that Wilfre showed her Mike, saying "he showed me you." After Mari reveals this to Mike, the Raposa vanish from his view, and he wakes up from his coma. The Raposa world continued to exist despite Mike waking up, mainly due to the memories Mike still held of the Raposa - including Mari.
Drawn to Life: Two Realms[edit]
Four years later, Mari is on the Beach, praying to the Creator. As she prays, a twice-revived Wilfre appears behind her, lacking Shadow and wearing a hoodie. He tells her that the Human realm is running out of time, and gives Mari the Book of Imagination - a book that allows you to enter the mind of another. Mari hopes that a new Hero would be up to the challenge of saving the Human realm, and Mari assures the Raposa that they would be.
Later, Mari enters Creation Hall, apologizing to the Creator and asking for a Hero to help Mike. A new Hero appears, and Mari decides to give them the Book of Imagination, allowing them to enter her mind to train their skills. After the Hero clears her training level, she send the Hero to the Human realm to find Mike and bring him back to Rapoville. When the Hero returns without Mike, Mari suggests that Mike would need a gift from the Creator to be convinced. However, Jowee catches Mari and the Hero together, upset that she didn't tell him that the Hero was back.
After using the Book of Imagination on Jowee, he explains to Mari that since Chef Cookie stopped making Banya Scones, he'd been agitated. Mari takes the time to explain the situation to Jowee while the Hero uses the Book on Chef Cookie. When the Hero returns, Mari says that they should give Mike a Watch to convince him to come back to the village, so the Hero creates one. The Hero leaves and quickly returns with Mike, so Mari brings them, along with Jowee, into Village Hall to discuss Mike's situation.
Mari explains to Mike that after Wilfre was defeated last time, the Shadow was forced into the Human realm, ridding the Raposa realm of Shadow. However, she refuses to tell anyone how she learned that. Mari tells Mike that she doesn't know how to defeat the Shadow, but she does know that time runs opposite in the two realms - night in the Human realm is day in the Raposa realm and vice versa. She suggests that Mike waits for the Raposa's day to end before returning home.
Later, after encountering more Shadow, this time with Aly, Mike and the Hero return to Rapoville to meet with Mari. Finally coming to terms with his reality, Mari says that she wants to visit the Human realm one day. Mike asks why no one else could see the Shadow, and Mari admits that she still doesn't know, but emphasizes that even if it's invisible, the Shadow is still very dangerous. She suggests that the Hero build up Imagination Power while Mike says hello to old friends. The Hero leaves to explore Crazy Barks' mind, and Mari stays behind in the village.
After Aly tells Mike off, and he blames the Hero, Mari sneaks up on Jowee and the Hero having a conversation. As Jowee calms down from the fright, Mari asks the Hero to help her cure the "lazy" Raposa in the village - Pirate Beard, Indee, and Unagi. The Hero is then sent on a series of quests throughout the village by the other Raposa while Mari and Jowee figure out a new plan. When the Hero returns, Mari asks them to speak with the human Heather, hoping that she might know more about the situation. Jowee asks that the Hero say that he misses her, but Mari explains that she wasn't in their realm the same way Mike was, almost letting slip that she was working with Wilfre.
When the Hero next returns, Mari learns that Mike had escaped into the Raposa realm to hide from his responsibilities in the Human realm. Mari tells the Hero to search around the village, and Mike is eventually found in the Watersong House. Mari asks him what he was doing, and after he reveals that he wished he died in his car crash, Mari opens up about her father. She explains that when he was killed, she felt the guilt, but the village helped her overcome it, and she was able to forgive Wilfre for killing him. She then reveals that Wilfre was the one who told her about the Human realm, shocking Jowee and angering Mike, who asks why she didn't act quicker if she knew his realm was in danger.
After Mike runs back to Belleview, Mari goes to the Secret Beach, where Jowee and the Hero cheer her up from Mike's insults. After using the Book on her again, Mari gathers her resolve and tells the Hero to go back and fight Aldark - the last Shadow - in Belleview. After Aldark is defeated and the Hero returns, Wilfre approaches Mari and explains that Aldark was not truly defeated, and that the next time he shows up, it might not be so easy to defeat him. Wilfre tells her that he has work to attend to, far away from the village, and Mari is left with Jowee and the Hero.
Some time later, Mari is resting on the Beach when Jowee comes up next to her. Mari explains that she feels her best when the Hero is around, and out of the blue, Jowee proposes to her, offering a ring designed by the Creator. Mari agrees to marry him, and the two of them spend the rest of the night on the Beach.
