–Joseph Tringali

Joseph Tringali, also known as Joe, is a Developer Avatar created by GuyThatExists based on the Lead Designer and Executive Producer of the same name. He appears in the short stories Blank Slates, Blank Slates 2, and Blank Slates 3 as a major character, and the stories Salem Rose Pt. 1 and Salem Rose Pt. 2 as a minor character. He also appears in the one-shots Self-Awareness, GenericChallenge, the original Drawn to Life, and in a non-canon route of Heather Dating Sim Chapter 6 in the Developer's Grove.

As one of the lead developers in the Developer's Grove, he was placed in charge when Miah vanished. He would later be temporarily overthrown by Drakon and the Droogle Leader, though he would be freed by the efforts of the citizens of The Void. He would punish the Droogle Leader by forcing him to work with Joe in Drawn to Life: Two Realms, and he would assist both Salem Rose and Milfre in their attempts to get into The Void. After the Droogle Leader goes missing, he leads the charge in searching for Miah and apprehending GenericChallenge, which would lead to him getting the Stylus. When Tombstone attacks The Void, Joe takes in the refugees, and he brings Eric Kozlowsky to the Grove. In a fight with Tombstone's undead Droogle army, he would seal off the Grove from canon and trap both himself and the Droogles in the Grove, unable to escape.

Joe is a human with brown hair that resides in a small, green bush.

Book Icon.png Story[edit]

Blank Slates[edit]

Joe is first heard by the Four Guardians, asking them to send one cut character into the Developer's Grove. However, Joe is first seen when Mildew is chosen by the Guardians. Joe gives Mildew a tour of the grove, teaching Mildew about what to expect in the games. However, he, along with Mildew and David Franco, get overthrown by the Droogle Leader and the rest of the Droogles in their mutiny. The three of them are stabbed by the Droogle Leader's Sword and sent into The Void.

In The Void, Joe, Franco, and Mildew wake up to see the Four Guardians and explain their situation. Joe asks about the sudden appearance of the Shadow Hole and Shadow Mari, along with everything else that had been created. Before he can get a complete answer though, Drakon and Dinofrog attack the group. Drakon captures Joe, Franco, and Mildew and takes them to the Shadow Hole.

At the Hole, Drakon releases the three behind Shadow Mari, holding them hostage during the upcoming battle. Eventually, after a long fight at the hole, Mayo tells Shadow Mari to shoot a beam of Shadow at Willham, prompting Joe, among others, to ask why Mayo was working with Shadow Mari. Mayo breaks down due to all the questions, and in the wake of her breakdown, Joe and Mildew return to the grove.

Back in the Grove, they are met by Franco, who tells Joe about Hose's request to keep The Void as it is. While he considers the request, Willham, Shadow Mari, and the Droogle Leader all appear in the Grove, and Willham hands the Leader off to Joe. Before they leave, Joe grants Hose's wish, and Shadow Mari brings life to The Void. Joe also deleted Mayo at Willham's request. Afterwards, Joe puts the Droogle Leader in charge of progress checks in Drawn to Life: Two Realms as a punishment.

Self-Awareness[edit]

Joe is seen again when Aly sneaks into the Developer's Grove, and he tries to help recover her memories. When he and the Droogle Leader can't help her, they send her back to The Void using the Droogle Leader's Sword.

Salem Rose Pt. 1[edit]

Joe is next seen arguing with the Droogle Leader about a hypothetical Two Realms Village, with Joe holding firm in his beliefs that they need to begin work on the village so that when Drawn to Life: Two Realms released, its cut and unused residents would have a place to stay. Miles snuck around him undetected, stabbing himself with the Droogle Leader's Sword. When the sword falls to the ground, both Joe and the Droogle Leader turn around to look at it. Joe jokingly asks if they gave the Droogles psychic powers, and the Droogle Leader denies that he moved the sword.

Salem Rose Pt. 2[edit]

Joe is later found by Milfre when she arrives in the Developer's Grove, asking him about The Void. He waves her off, stating that unless she plans to kill Salem Rose, she needs to leave. When Milfre admits that she plans on fighting him, he calls Willham and Shadow Mari up to the Grove. When Milfre returns with Kamalah and Jowee, Joe sets the well for 1982, and watches as they leave.

He is later seen after Salem Rose is killed, when Willham and Shadow Mari bring the injured Raposa back to the Grove to recover. Joe sets the well for 2013 and says goodbye to Stampy, next setting the well for 2042. He says goodbye to the rest of the Raposa, leaving him and Willham alone in the Grove. When Willham asks to return to The Void, Joe tells him that the Droogle Leader's Sword had gone missing.

Blank Slates 2[edit]

After being joined by Shadow Mari, the three of them begin to search the Developer's Grove for the Droogle Leader, but cannot find him. Joe realizes that if they can't find the Droogle Leader, they need to instead find Miah. He calls Aly and Franco Key to the Grove so they can find Miah in Belleview, revealing that he took the role of Mike's father, Mr. Row. He sends them and Shadow Mari off to find him, while he and Willham stay behind to keep searching for the Droogle Leader.

When the group returns, they bring GenericChallenge with them. Joe questions GenericChallenge about Miah's whereabouts, and he agrees to tell them as long as he can continue to roam free in canon. Joe agrees to his terms and GenericChallenge reveals that Miah is trapped in his basement. Joe sends the group back to get him, and they return Miah to the grove. Miah gives the group a new tool to send people to The Void, the Stylus, and everyone but him and Joe return to their homes.

Now alone with Miah, Joe asks if he can go through with causing the crash that kickstarts the Drawn to Life series. Miah reveals that he's hesitant, so Joe decides to erase his memory of being a developer so that he could live out his final moments in peace. Miah thanks Joe and his memory is erased, so Joe sends him to the carnival with the rest of his family. Joe then gets back to searching for the Droogle Leader.

Heather Dating Sim[edit]

Joe only appears in a non-canon path of Heather Dating Sim where You decide to let Willham kill the Master of the Abyss. Six months after her death, The Engineer and Willham work together to create a device that would be capable of sending everyone home. You, Willham, The Engineer, and Pleather all jump into Roboville's Wishing Well and appear in the Developer's Grove, where Joe is waiting to take the Stylus and send you all home.

Blank Slates 3[edit]

Joe is next seen a few years later, holding a meeting in the Developer's Grove about GenericChallenge. Attending the meeting are himself, David Franco, Aly, Mill, Hoopz, and Sparky, the latter three of whom get a call that the fourth piece of the Jungle Creature - Tombstone - had been spotted attacking the Drawn to Life Village. The entire group, minus the developers, returns to The Void. Joe and Franco then decide to continue their search for GenericChallenge.

When Joe is next seen, the residents of The Void have begun ascending into the Grove, putting a pause on Joe and Franco's plans. When Willham arrives, Joe is attempting to delete the Jungle Creature's files from the Control Booth, but he cannot, as Tombstone keeps infecting other files. As he thinks about what to do, he sends Willham to Shadow Mari's location with the Stylus.

He is next seen much later, when Repair Guy visits to try and find his daughter. Joe suggests that he search around the Grove to see if she ascended while he and Franco discuss how to best combat Tombstone, eventually deciding that they would need to ask its creator - Eric "Koz" Kozlowsky - for help. He sends Franco, now disguised as Daniel James, and Repair Guy, "disguised" as Rocko, into canon to hunt GenericChallenge down while he attempts to get ahold of Koz.

When Koz arrives in the Grove and begins looking in the Control Booth, Joe explains that The Void had been populated and that the Jungle Creature had been left unchecked. Koz explains that even though he was annoyed, he would do whatever it took to not be deactivated again, telling Joe that when an Avatar is deactivated, the people they emulate keep living their lives, scaring Joe. Before Joe can respond to that, however, Wilfred and William jump out of the Wishing Well with GenericChallenge.

Joe and Koz pull the three Raposa into the Control Booth, interrogating them about where they were, and why they brought GenericChallenge back. When Repair Guy returns to the Grove, entering the Booth, Koz leaves in frustration, and Joe berates GenericChallenge, eventually throwing all the Raposa out and bringing Koz back in, shutting the blinds. When Goldie and the rest of Tombstone's undead Droogle army attack the Grove, Repair Guy tries to get Joe's attention but fails.

Joe and Koz eventually open the blinds to see the fighting happening in the Grove, and Joe gives Koz the Stylus to run around the Grove, sending people to safety. He also deactivates the Wishing Well to keep the Droogles from escaping into canon. However, after making a lap around the Grove, Joe calls him back to the booth and tells him that he could simply write the word "safe" with the Stylus, and it would know his intent. Koz begins another lap around the Grove, until he and Joe are the only ones left in the Grove with the Droogle army. As the army tries to break down the door to the Booth, Joe admits that his plan was to send everyone to canon to keep them safe, and he sends Koz away as well.

When Goldie breaks into the booth, Joe smashes the main computer in the Booth and snaps the Stylus in two, trapping himself and the Droogles in the Grove forever. Goldie threatens to absorb him to learn how to make another, but Joe reminds her that Miah was the one who made it, not him, so absorbing him wouldn't help them out. The Droogle army then retreats, leaving Joe alone in the Grove. He slowly wanders around for a bit before jumping into the Wishing Well and floating in the water inside.

Ignore what Jeremiah says... I hope you enjoyed the story!

–Joseph Tringali

Attention Guardians! We have decided to bring back one cut character for the next game!
The four of you will decide who it is, and report back to your two screeners. Thank you for your services!

–Joseph Tringali

Welcome to the Dev Grove Mildew! My name is Joe and I’ll be guiding you through the creation process.

–Joseph Tringali

Hey, what’s going on here?

–Joseph Tringali

Right now, our only hope is finding the screeners. You four should know where they are, right?

–Joseph Tringali

How come she’s been alive when we only gave the four of y’all life?

–Joseph Tringali

She’s the reason we hired the Droogles in the first place, to keep her out.

–Joseph Tringali

Well, then, we have our answer. You remember your line David?

–Joseph Tringali

Attention guardians! Good news, I’ll grant your request because it’s the least we could do after seeing how you all used to live.
I would like to sincerely apologize for our negligence and hope we can have better relationships in the future!

–Joseph Tringali

I think we can take care of him. In fact, I know the perfect job for him in Two Realms!

–Joseph Tringali

There’s no way that’s Alana, right?

–Joseph Tringali

Well let’s not just stand here, help me pull her up.

–Joseph Tringali

Alright Aly, it’s clear you don’t remember who you are, so I need you to listen to me.
You’re a character in a video game, and you were sent into that video game by me, Joe.

–Joseph Tringali

We’re in the Developer’s Grove, but you’re in The Void Alana. Say hello to some of your old friends!

–Joseph Tringali

If we don’t, then all of these people won’t have a place to live!

–Joseph Tringali

The game is scheduled to come out in a year.
We got lucky with the other three villages, but we won’t be so lucky with this one. We need to start building it now.

–Joseph Tringali

We didn’t plan to give you any psychic powers, did we?

–Joseph Tringali

Ma’am I’m sure your problem is really bad, but you don’t belong here, and I’m trying to deal with three problems at once right now.
One of my employees ran away with our only entrance to The Void, our Guardians are dead, and GenericChallenge is still at large.
Unless your old friend is that weird, aged up Miles that calls himself Salem Rose, you need to go back down that well.

–Joseph Tringali

I have no idea how he evolved past his coding, but killing him is the only solution I can think of.

–Joseph Tringali

No clue who she is or how she plans to kill him, but she’s here and she offered.

–Joseph Tringali

Welcome back you three! Is Salem Rose taken care of?

–Joseph Tringali

Good to hear! I’ll set the well for 2042 and all of you can head back home!

–Joseph Tringali

Alright, the well’s set for 2013. Anyone else not from 2042?

–Joseph Tringali

About that…

–Joseph Tringali

About that, the sword is missing.

–Joseph Tringali

I haven’t done anything yet. With GenericChallenge still on the loose and Milfre coming to visit, I haven’t had time to even leave this terminal.

–Joseph Tringali

Well, since that didn’t work, there is one last thing we could try. We can always go find Miah.

–Joseph Tringali

Welcome back Franco! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

–Joseph Tringali

Well first off, he decided to do what you two did. He acted as an agent in the games, but after we released The Next Chapter, he fell off our radar.

–Joseph Tringali

Unlike you two, Miah was never disguised as an NPC. It’s incredibly unlikely that you’ll be able to find him without a specific location.

–Joseph Tringali

He went in as Mike’s dad. As far as we know, he died in the crash. Which is where you two come in. I’m sending you back to before the crash happened so you can find Miah and bring him back for a bit.

–Joseph Tringali

Well first off, you can tell us where Miah is, then we can figure out what to do about all the stuff you’ve moved.

–Joseph Tringali

I appreciate your concern, but you do know that Miah is supposed to cause that crash, right?

–Joseph Tringali

It was Mike’s game, that plot wouldn’t’ve worked at all! Now, GenericChallenge, where’d you hide Miah.

–Joseph Tringali

We don’t know what the future of the franchise holds. We could send him somewhere and accidentally drop him in the middle of Drawn to Life 4 without even knowing!

–Joseph Tringali

Normally I could, but ever since Salem Rose and Milfre showed up, everything past Two Realms is fuzzy, minus a few distinct years. I have no idea what that means, but it scares me a bit.

–Joseph Tringali

Those are all entirely possible, but I can’t say for sure. All I know is that I don’t know where the franchise goes from here, which means nowhere is safe for him to go.

–Joseph Tringali

Great, your one good idea wasn’t even yours.

–Joseph Tringali

Well how about we give it a try? You guys ready to go home?

–Joseph Tringali

You three can head back through the well to get home.

–Joseph Tringali

If you don’t mind, I might have an idea. You remember what we used to do to people we sent into games?

–Joseph Tringali

You’re going to die Miah. Your car is going to do a complete flip, and you’re going to be ejected. The least I can do is let you spend your final moments with your family, spend your final moments enjoying a carnival, not worried about the ride home. Plus, I’m not gonna give you much of a choice.

–Joseph Tringali

See ya around. Now then, let’s find this dog.

–Joseph Tringali

Y/n? Pleather? Mike? Nice to meet you three. My name is Joe, and I work here in the Developer’s Grove!

–Joseph Tringali

Ooh, a 3DS stylus. We were hoping to get one of these made one day, but never could. So, I need the three of you to stand back and close your eyes. Each of you think of your home, your friends, your bed, whatever it is that’ll help you focus.

–Joseph Tringali

Alright, we’ve talked about the Droogle Leader, we had an update on the Shadow Village, so that brings us to our last item for the day – GenericChallenge. He hasn’t been checking in recently, and we have no reason to believe he’s up to any good. Any sightings recently?

–Joseph Tringali

And any one of them could’ve been him. There’s honestly no way for us to know. Has anyone checked up on Rapoville?

–Joseph Tringali

Do you guys need any help?

–Joseph Tringali

Since you’re offering, I think that’s a great idea!

–Joseph Tringali

Oh, you haven’t heard? The Jungle Creature is back.

–Joseph Tringali

No idea. I should be able to just delete the guy like I did with Mayo, but it’s like it’s infected other files. Also just like Mayo. Any theories?

–Joseph Tringali

Sounds good. Where to?

–Joseph Tringali

Thank God someone with authority is here! Can you please help?

–Joseph Tringali

I just need to you get them all to be quiet and sort into villages so I can figure out who’s here and who’s not.

–Joseph Tringali

You have no idea how long I’ve been trying to accomplish that. Anything you want, we can do.

–Joseph Tringali

Well, not exactly. We can only tell you exactly where the Guardians are. See? Violet and Hoopz are at the HQ heading towards the Shadow Village, Sparky’s right outside the Drawn to Life Village, and Mill’s heading towards the Two Realms Plains.

–Joseph Tringali

Miah could’ve walked through here, and we would’ve missed it with how hectic it’s been. I’d say to head over to the DTL Village huddle over there and take a look.

–Joseph Tringali

Oh, of course! There is a possibility that GenericChallenge may have taken her to canon during his whole ‘Overhaul’ thing. Franco is heading back to canon soon to see where GC is hiding out. You could go with him to see if you can find her.

–Joseph Tringali

Like we told Willham, the Jungle Creature – Tombstone – seems to be infecting other files in the system, so we can’t delete it even if we wanted to.

–Joseph Tringali

We have no idea. All we know is that it originated from the Wii game. Neither of us worked on that.

–Joseph Tringali

That would be a good place to look, wouldn’t it. I’ll get on that.

–Joseph Tringali

Eric Kozlowsky, also known as Koz. He uploaded the Jungle Creature on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008.

–Joseph Tringali

7:54 and 20 seconds. PM. And I know how to get ahold of him.

–Joseph Tringali

Save the world!

–Joseph Tringali

Hello there! You must be Koz!

–Joseph Tringali

Well, about that? We don’t actually know. It just kind of, broke out.

–Joseph Tringali

Well, it was, until they came to life.

–Joseph Tringali

Well it’s in the name you know. Drawn to Life. Not too farfetched.

–Joseph Tringali

I’m assuming it’s nothing good.

–Joseph Tringali

Well, I appreciate your help Koz. I don’t know what else to say.

–Joseph Tringali

You’re still sentient when you’re deactivated?

–Joseph Tringali

Okay, first off, who are you two?

–Joseph Tringali

This is GenericChallenge, and he’s been siphoning things from The Void into canon.

–Joseph Tringali

Okay, you two, out.

–Joseph Tringali

You three, stay. Alright, first things first, where were you Generic? Why haven’t you checked in?

–Joseph Tringali

You forgot? That simple?

–Joseph Tringali

As much as he deserves it, you gotta stop. That’s the first order of business. Second order – where’s Franco?

–Joseph Tringali

Great! Do you know when he’ll be back?

–Joseph Tringali

Alright, everyone out!

–Joseph Tringali

Not now!!

–Joseph Tringali

Is there even a chance we can get through this?

–Joseph Tringali

We might have another chance, but it’s risky. Are you a good runner?

–Joseph Tringali

What are you writing on everyone? It’s taking a long time to get ‘em out of here.

–Joseph Tringali

That’s on me, I should’ve told you this before sending you out. The stylus works on intent, not on exact phrasing. If you write ‘safe’ on them, they’ll be fine.

–Joseph Tringali

I know, I know.

–Joseph Tringali

We haven’t heard anything from the Guardians or the screeners since this all started. The only way we can protect the things we made is to put them in canon.

–Joseph Tringali

The games are finished Koz. Everything already happened. It’s time for us to admit we don’t have control anymore.

–Joseph Tringali

We live.

–Joseph Tringali

If I let myself escape, you would’ve just picked up the stylus and followed me.

–Joseph Tringali

And do what? Miah’s the one who gave us the stylus, and the console is completely destroyed.

–Joseph Tringali

See ya around.

–Joseph Tringali
