Pheme Mina is a Raposa created by GuyThatExists that appears in the short story Bavel's Diary as a secondary character and in the one-shot P.S. Athys' Addendum as a secondary character. She also appears in The 35 in 3 out of 105 segments.
She was one of Eugene Shinar's friends and came to Rapoville with him. She is notable for helping Bavel and Athys with the World Gate Project and being the first Rust-Furred Raposa known to live in Rapoville. She continued to live until at least 2013, opening the Moondrop in Shadow City and bringing her descendant Metis into her operation.
Years later, she would overhear Virgil discussing the plan to give Shadow City its first mayor recognized by the world at large, and Pheme ends up winning the position. However, she soon realizes that someone was trying to assassinate her. Eventually, after Virgil accepts a proposal to officially rename the city back to Rust City, she is assassinated along with Brontes.
Appearance[edit]
Pheme's appearance is currently unknown, though it is known that she has orange fur and rust colored hair.
Story[edit]
Before Bavel's Diary[edit]
Pheme was born in Rust City around the same time as Athys and the two became friends. Some time before the beginning of Bavel's Diary, Pheme met Eugene Shinar and became a part of his group that eventually colonized Rapoville.
Bavel's Diary[edit]
Bavel first mentions Pheme after writing his letter to Athys at the Creator's request. He asks her if she recognized Athys' surname - "Courania" - which she did, but couldn't remember anything about the name. When Athys arrived in Rapoville, she and Pheme reconnected, and Athys lived with Pheme while staying in the village. Once Athys and Bavel had completed the prototype for the World Gates, both Pheme and Athys began shaving their rust fur to use as conductors for the gates. According to Bavel, both she and Athys were "almost completely bald" by the time the gates began construction.
After celebrating the opening of Creation Hall, Pheme directed the villagers of Rapoville to the Beach, where she and Athys both inserted their fur into the gate, opening a connection between Rapoville and Surf Beach. While the villagers all celebrated on Surf Beach, Pheme, Athys, Bavel, his wife Peliossa, and his daughter Tegean all stayed back to celebrate and drink. Later on, Pheme would work on the rest of the Gates with Athys, Bavel, and Tubbub, reporting back to Bavel when Athys and Tubbub went on their expeditions to construct the destination Gates.
P.S. Athys' Addendum[edit]
After Bavel goes missing and Athys is appointed as Tegean's Deputy Mayor, Athys asks Pheme to watch over her Ink Factory in Rust City. Pheme agrees to this and moves herself and her family into Rust City, where the Creator promises that they would be safe.
After P.S. Athys' Addendum[edit]
Due to Pheme's rust colored fur, it is unknown how long she lived after the events in P.S. Athys' Addendum. According to Mari's footnotes in her transcription of the Diary, she deduces that Pheme is an ancestor of Metis.
The 35[edit]
2013[edit]
Over the next centuries, Pheme's life is unknown, though it is known that she accumulated a large sum of wealth, in the form of Rapo-Coins, Shadite, and Mannequite. Eventually, by 2013, Pheme opened Moondrop, a cafe in Shadow City. One day, she meets Metis though doesn't know who she is. After serving her, giving her coffee to her for free, Metis offers to help her with her finances, and Pheme reveals her wealth to Metis.
2017[edit]
Years later, Pheme overhears Virgil speaking with Brontes about putting Shadow City back on the world map with a Mayor, and Pheme asks what would make a Mayor candidate qualified, drawing the attention of everyone else in the cafe. When Virgil explains his job and asks for any people that the villagers could see as Mayor, Metis nominates Pheme. After the commotion subsides, Brontes, who had nominated his boss, Hank Reynell, says that he would vote for Pheme.
2019[edit]
After months of campaigning and elections, Pheme is elected as mayor, with blessings from Hank and Virgil. She celebrates in Moondrop with Metis, and the two of them prepare to enjoy Bosses, but someone explodes her vault. Running upstairs with Metis, Pheme analyzes the situation, figuring that at least five people attacked before returning downstairs. They soon return downstairs, meeting up with Brontes, who notices that some of Pheme's Boss was missing.
However, Metis and Brontes quickly find a bullet lodged in the wall, having gone through Pheme's Boss. Pheme directs Metis and Brontes to lock down the shop and follow her upstairs, where she tells them that she would likely be assassinated.
2022[edit]
During her tenure as Mayor, Pheme waits with Metis and Brontes for confirmation that Shadow City would be officially renamed to Rust City. Pheme is annoyed that the email is late, but when it comes in, Pheme begins drafting an announcement to the village. Metis halts the announcement and starts a toast, but as Pheme raises her glass, she is assassinated by a Shadowdweller.
