Eugene Shinar is a Raposa created by GuyThatExists that appears in the short story Bavel's Diary as an unseen but supporting character. He also appears in The 35 as a character in 1 out of 105 segments.

During his life, he was the leader of a group that colonized Rapoville, expelling the Creator and the indigenous Liškan Raposa to the Starlite Works. He then made himself the first mayor of the Rapoville, eventually giving birth to Bavel, who would undo most of his policies and open the door to the Creator and the Liškan Raposa. He would die under circumstances only known as "the curse of the savages".

In his death, he would be cursed to wander the Raposa world as a guiding spirit, though he shirked his duties, eventually coming to know Ephren and some of his descendants. In 2020, he would be approached by Sigil to speak at a Shadowdwellers event, joining the group.

Story

Before Bavel's Diary

The earliest known account of Eugene Shinar is from the group of followers he amassed to colonize Rapoville. This group would include Ms. Sandy, Pheme Mina, Mr. Tubbub, Mr. Brown, Teleal Helison, and Mari Lustro. Before colonizing Rapoville, he would also give birth to a son he would name Migdal Shinar Once this group arrived at Rapoville, currently inhabited by the Liškan Raposa, they chased them out of their homes and into the forest. During this attack, Eugene set fire to the Creation Hall that the Liškan Raposa had built.

After taking over the village, he named himself mayor and began instating the religion of Svetlo and Temny in place of the Creator. When he neared the end of his life, he would name his son the second mayor of Rapoville and retire. A few years later, he would die to what his son would call "the curse of the savages", though what this means is still unknown.

Before The 35

Thanks to a curse of the Creator, forcing all those who led the area known as Rapoville to live their afterlives as a guide to others, Eugene haunted Rapoville and the surrounding areas for years, with only select Liškan Raposa to keep him company. Over the decades, he eventually met some of his descendants, such as Zerua and Nathan, and certain rebellious Liškan Raposa such as Ephren.

The 35

2020

In 2020, Eugene is approached by Sigil, asking him to be the keynote speaker at an annual gala for the Shadowdwellers. After hearing what the group was about, he accepted and prepared a speech, inviting Zerua, Nathan, and Ephren with him. During his speech, he thanks the group for being so welcoming and riles them up to make changes in the world.

Truth be told, for the longest time, I wanted to come here, but I was worried about the kinds of ghosts here." Murmurs of agreement came up through the crowd. "You may not know, but I was the founder of Rapoville, and that level of fame can be daunting when going to new places. Anyways, I'm sure you want to hear about my work around the world. After my death at the hands of some ruthless savages, I watched as my son desecrated my name in the name of the Creator. Unfortunately, as I'm sure many of you learned, the Creator was a real and heartless deity. I was forced to wander the world without any of my loved ones – I was the only dead rapo walking around actually, except for a small group of savages. Come to find out, the Creator had cursed Rapoville. Every leader of the village, regardless of the formality or legality of their leadership, would be forced to wander the world as a guide for other souls. No one ever told me when I took the job! I watched as the world grew around me, so I decided to fight back. Whenever I could, I made myself known. I knocked over jars, I shouted at the villagers, and I did anything I could to beg for acknowledgement. Then, everything changed when that Wilfre kid took over this island. Suddenly, everyone started getting funneled into this place when they died. Probably something with how this place used to be the Creator's first village or something, I don't know. Regardless, I watched from afar as you all made the best out of this bad situation, so I did what any good leader would do. I started rounding up the ghosts not there yet and brought them with me. Now, if the Shadowdwellers will have me, I would love to join this organization and introduce some of the savages and Rapoville mayors that have wandered the world with me.” –Eugene Shinar
