Book Icon.png Story

Byetts was born to Latries and Shep as "Jane." The three of them lived with the Lavasteam Royal Family for most of their lives, and eventually, Byetts comes out as trans, changing his name. Latries refuses to acknowledge this, and she tries to admit Byetts to Ex-Isle, although Queen Letit stops this from going through. Some time later, Letit is killed by lead poisoning, and Latries frames Byetts for the crime, forcing him into a life on Ex-Isle.

During his time on the island, he is bullied by some of the other exiles and the guards, and he decides to escape. During his escape, he is found by Kacha, a guard on the island, and she helps him climb over a wall. However, the two of them are stopped by Terra, and Byetts is forced to stay on the island. This event pushes Kacha into exile, and Byetts lets her into his circle with Robigo.

Some time later, the three of them are exploring the lower levels of the island before breakfast, when suddenly, they find two Raposa, Oma and Ocean, cowering in fear surrounded by their belongings. Byetts asks how they got on the island, since no ships had docked that day. Hearing the noise, Elodie comes down to the five of them, bringing them all to breakfast.

At breakfast, the group of five Raposa eat last due to them being late. Byetts and Robigo discuss some of the things going on in Lavasteam, and Byetts brings up that Key is building a Giant Robosa. The two discuss the royal family, and they listen as Kacha explains how she was exiled.

One week later, Ocean and Byetts give Oma a portrait of the three of them, along with Robigo, Kacha, and a creature later revealed to be Fext. Shortly after, Kacha runs up to the group with news about Miney's new advisor - Salem, calling him weird looking, but she runs off as Elodie and another guard, Mog, chase her down. Byetts explains the recent history of Lavasteam to Oma and Ocean, but Ocean gets distracted by Robigo, leaving the conversation. Byetts and Oma catch the tail end of Robigo's story of exile, and the group then discusses why Wilfre might be draining the Color from the realm.

The next week, Byetts witnesses a new exile, Colepere, snap at Robigo after she pokes fun at him. Before he can do anything however, Salem appears in the mess hall and announces that he would be conducting interviews with some of the exiles throughout the day. Byetts sits down for breakfast, where he hears about Salem's actions in Watersong from Colepere. After Robigo is called for her interview, Oma says that she should be leaving for yoga with some other exiles, and Byetts is happy that the two are adjusting well to the island.

Later that night, Kacha asks Elodie if she knew where Robigo had gone after the interview, so Elodie, Kacha, Byetts, Oma, and Colepere all search for her. They eventually find her in her room being attacked by Salem. They listen in as Salem reveals himself as Wilfre and kidnaps Robigo. The group goes into her room after she is gone, and they discuss how to proceed if Salem returns, with Byetts saying that if Salem only wanted Robigo, then the group would be safe for the time being.

A week later, Byetts is upset that Oma and Ocean may be leaving with Galileo, but is intrigued by the mention of Heather's Pendant. He begins to explain what Shadite is to the group, and after some pushing from Ocean, he tells the group how he was exiled in the first place. Immediately after his story however, the mess hall is swarmed by Wilfre and his Ameba. Kacha, Elodie, and Terra, along with Mog, all run into the mess hall and tell everyone to get down. He hides behind a tipped over table with other exiles and some guards, but when Oma and Ocean are kidnapped by Wilfre, he jumps out and begins to fight the Ameba. He is given a spear by Terra, and a battle ensues.

When Wilfre drains the color from the island, Byetts is petrified, but the Creator quickly restores him, destroying the Ameba in the process. While Byetts finds his bearings, Brûlées stages a rally against the guards. Colepere eventually stops the rally and helps the exiles and guards negotiate better terms for their treatment. He eventually leaves the island with Oma, Ocean, Galileo, Eeny, Puck, Kacha, Colepere, and Elodie on Baki Beard's Revenge, mere seconds before Allight enthralls the Raposa on the island.

Quote Icon.png Quotes

One question, how did you all get here? I’ve been watching the ocean all morning and I didn’t see a single Watersong or Lavasteam ship.

–Byetts

Don’t expect all of your bags to get back to you though. Elodie’s one of the nicer guards, so no telling where all your stuff will end up.

–Byetts

Nothing in here but paper and markers. If they want to inspect it, they can, but they won’t find anything good.

–Byetts

Is that actually how the two of you got here?

–Byetts

I heard that Key was working on a huge Robosa that could do the mining for the entire village.

–Byetts

I just can’t imagine how he’s gonna power the thing. The Robosa we have now can burn a whole house’s worth of energy in a day.

–Byetts

Yeah, the five of us lived together for a few years. Perks of being their cousin I guess.

–Byetts

Oh, definitely Meeny. Moe loves being the foreman, and Eeny desperately wants to get off the mainland.

–Byetts

Please ma’am, I promise I won’t try this again. I just can’t stay here any longer!

–Byetts

Come on Kacha, you’ve seen what they’ve tried to do to me. You’ve heard what they call me. I can’t stand this anymore.

–Byetts

Well, Watersong’s boarding school has an amazing art program. Maybe I could get you enrolled if you get your act together in the next thousand years.

–Byetts

Frankly, I didn’t know that Miney was planning to have an advisor.

–Byetts

You know, your daughter is probably the youngest person to make it onto the island. Under different circumstances, I’d say that you should be honored.

–Byetts

If I remember your stories correctly, your mayor and some other villagers banded together to summon the Creator and kill him.

–Byetts

Oh really? Who told you that?

–Byetts

Who’s your bestest friend on the whole island?

–Byetts

Ignoring the fact that two of them aren’t even girls, I’m glad to see that you two are adjusting well!

–Byetts

If all he wanted was Robigo, then for the time being, we’re safe. And besides, your husband could be here any day now if he’s coming for you two.

–Byetts

Great. We lose Robigo one week and you two the next.

–Byetts

You said it was a ruby pendant, right? Did it have some sort of supernatural glow?

–Byetts

That was a Ruby Artifact; Robigo told me about them when she was still here. Those artifacts are made with a special kind of mineral called Polished Shadite. It’s not technically ruby, because they have the innate ability to transform into other, similar objects, along with the ability to harness and control both Shadow and Color, and presumably any other magical substance.

–Byetts

Anyways, Shadite also has the ability to track other pieces of Shadite. If there was a piece in someone’s pocket, and you had a map and your own piece, it would be able to trace a quick path to the other piece.

–Byetts

Unless they have another piece with them, they won’t come here for it, assuming they even go looking for it at all. It’s essentially lost for good.

–Byetts

Well, if I’m the last one to share, I suppose it would be nice to get this off my chest.

–Byetts

You don’t understand! This is my mother’s doing, not mine!

–Byetts

Dad would have accepted me for who I am! Just like everyone else in this family has!

–Byetts

You raised me to hide who I really was! You dismissed everything I did as a phase! Dad left because you were so desperate to keep me down!

–Byetts

No way, I’m staying here with you guys.
