Salem is one of the main antagonists in Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter. He is first met relatively early in the game, in Watersong.

Appearance

Salem is a Raposa with grey fur. He wears a white mask that covers half of his face along with a black cloak and top hat, making his appearance very similar to that of the Phantom of the Opera.

Story

He became an infamous character within Watersong for having challenged Mayor Rose to a singing contest. The wager: the loser's voice.

Salem cheats, and being bound by the Promise Conch, Mayor Rose loses her voice. Salem then hides the conch, and without the power of song, the village begins to weaken. This was Salem's intention. When The Hero finds the conch and returns the Mayor's voice, Salem becomes furious, and reveals himself to be Wilfre.

In Lavasteam, Salem convinces Miney into becoming a king/dictator-like ruler, forcing his people to mine Banya Crystals, though Salem continues to bully him into most of his decisions, like releasing the Giant Robosa. The Raposa tell Miney about Salem's true identity, and convince him to turn against Wilfre as well.

Another of Wilfre's disguises is Sock, and both are only used in the sequel.

It ends now.” –Salem Salem before attempting to attack Rose and Miles. “Hero! Your involvement has become quite taxing.” –Salem “Grr... I've endured this ruse long enough!” –Salem Salem before revealing that he was Wilfre in disguise. “I was coming to ask you the same question. It seems your idiocy has ruined our plan.” –Salem Salem after Miney asks him what happened to the Robosa. “Nevermind. I'm off to clean up your mess. You told that engineer to keep the Giant Robosa outside the control of the switch? Excellent.” –Salem Salem before he starts up the Giant Robosa.

• Salem bears a resemblance to the Phantom of the Opera.
• Salem is also the name of a city in Massachusetts, most famous for their witch trials.
• Ironically, the name Salem is a Hebrew boys' name meaning "peace".
  • The name 'Wilfre' which is notably similar to 'Wilfred', which means "desiring peace", may or may not be a parallel.
• It is currently unknown if Salem was an existing person or not before Wilfre took on the persona.
