–Shadow Mari
Shadow Mari is a Raposa adapted by GuyThatExists that appears in the short stories Blank Slates as one the main antagonists, as well as appearing in Salem Rose Pt. 1 as a minor character, and in Salem Rose Pt. 2, Blank Slates 2, and Blank Slates 3 as a main character. She also appears one-shots Self-Awareness as a main character and GenericChallenge as a cameo.
After populating The Void with all the cut objects, she fights against Willham. However, after the true nature of the situation is revealed, she replaces Mayo as a screener, and works with Willham to fight Salem Rose. She would later assist Alana and David Franco in capturing GenericChallenge and finding Jeremiah Slaczka. Two years later, she assists with the welfare of the Shadow Village and helps in the fight against Tombstone. She is a part of every major battle against Tombstone, and during the final fight, is ejected into canon by the Master of the Abyss, merging her consciousness with Jowee's.
Appearance[edit]
Shadow Mari takes the form of Mari, albeit covered in a layer of Shadow.
Story[edit]
Creation[edit]
Just before The Void was shut down after development of Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter, Shadow Mari was brought to life by Mayo, asking her to bring all of The Void inhabitants to life when the time came. Shadow Mari then created the Shadow Hole as a place to live while she waited to attack, where she lived throughout the years the The Void was inactive, until the development of Drawn to Life: Two Realms began.
Blank Slates[edit]
Populating The Void[edit]
Shadow Mari is first seen after the Four Guardians, Willham, and Mayo send Mildew to the Developer's Grove. She sent a beam of Shadow towards the Discussion Grounds and began to interrogate the Guardians and screeners. She demanded them to bring Mildew back down to The Void, but when they refused, she threatened to create life throughout The Void. After Willham begging her not to and Ore calling her bluff, she covered Ore in Shadow and shot a beam of shadow through Willham, killing him. As she continued to send beams of shadow throughout The Void, she gave life to all the Unused & Removed Features from the Drawn to Life Series. After her attack, she retreaded to her Shadow Hole.
Fight at the Shadow Hole[edit]
She is next seen when Drakon brings her Joe, Franco, and Mildew. She watches as many citizens of The Void being to surround the Shadow Hole, so she summons an army of Ink and Shadow beings from the hole. As her army attacks the people of The Void, she tells Drakon that he needs to dive into the Shadow Hole in order to see if they could get to the Dev Grove from the Shadow Hole. After he flies into the hole, she calls off her army of Ink and Shadow monsters, but quickly notices Willham speeding at her. She hears Mayo yell to kill him again, so she shoots another beam of shadow at him. This act prompts everyone to get mad and interrogate Mayo about her allegiances and actions, which in turn causes Mayo to have a mental breakdown and shout at the group of people. After Mayo calms down and begins to cry, Willham, who had reformed again, asks to talk to her, so shadow Mari begins to explain her past to Willham.
Changing Sides[edit]
Shortly before the events of Blank Slates, Mayo had created Shadow Mari in order to bring life to The Void, as Mayo felt that Willham was getting bored with no one around. Shadow Mari also explained that the Droogles and the Bosses' attacks were never part of Mayo's plans. Shortly after their conversation, Droogles began to appear in The Void due to Jinxy and the Droogle Killer's attack. Willham and Shadow Mari sorted out which Droogle was the Droogle Leader and kidnap him and dive into the Shadow Hole, closing it permanently.
The three of them appear in the Dev Grove, and Shadow Mari was approached by Franco to ask if she could change his wardrobe. She obliges and changes his attire to make him Franco Key. After Willham talks to Joe about deleting Mayo, Shadow Mari and Willham use the Droogle Leader's Sword to return to The Void. She uses her shadow to restore all the life that had been destroyed, and then joins the group to wish Alana luck in Drawn to Life: Two Realms, and laughs as Fiora reveals Sandal's name to the group.
Creating the Ink Well[edit]
Some time later, Shadow Mari began working with the Shadow and Ink creatures in The Void, wanting to make them feel more accepted after the events at the Shadow Hole. Shadow Mari then utilized the Ink Well in the Wii Village as a village for the Shadow and Ink creatures, including the Jungle Creature. The Jungle Creature made life difficult for everyone in the Ink Well and Shadow Mari, so Shadow Mari exiled the Jungle Creature to the Baki Temple.
Self-Awareness[edit]
Shadow Mari is next seen when Alana returns to The Void, fully believing that she was Aly. Shadow Mari and Willham notice that when Alana was licked by Sandal, some of her memories returned. Willham convinces Shadow Mari to launch a beam of Shadow at Alana, restoring all of her memories. The two then recruit Alana for a mission to find and apprehend GenericChallenge, and she returns to Belleview.
Salem Rose Pt. 1[edit]
Almost immediately after Alana leaves, Salem Rose, a corrupt form of Miles, attacks The Void. Shadow Mari, along with Willham, Crawler, Jinxy,Fox, and Rocket Vulture, attack him, trapping him in a ball of Shadow and smoke. However, Salem Rose portals away to the Color Vat and falls in. Shadow Mari, Willham, and the Four Guardians surround him and demand that he come out, but he releases a blast of color that kills the Guardians and allows him to portal away.
Salem Rose Pt. 2[edit]
Called to Canon[edit]
Shadow Mari is next seen when Milfre comes to the Dev Grove asking for help fighting Salem Rose. She and Willham come up to the Grove at Joe's request, and the two of them agree to help fight Salem Rose. Milfre gets Kamalah and Jowee from Rapoville in 2042, and the five of them go to 1982 to find Athys and her time machine. When they arrive in Rapoville, Shadow Mari hones in on Athys' Shadow while Willham explains to Milfre and Kamalah the events that had happened in The Void, stating that he's happy to finally be away from The Void. Just then, Shadow Mari notices that Athys teleported to her lair, creating her own portal, and the group travels through it.
Recruiting for Milfre's Team[edit]
In Athys' Lair, Shadow Mari stays back with Jowee while Kamalah talks to Athys and Willham talks to Milfre. Jowee asks about the relationship between Shadow Mari and Mari, and Shadow Mari has to tell him that there is little to none. However, she does explain her history to Jowee, explaining the filming of his nightmare. Milfre then announces that Athys' time machine is ready to use, so the five of them pile into the machine, and Athys tells them to return to 2042 to visit Lavasteam.
In Lavasteam, the five of them appear in Russet's meeting room, and Shadow Mari, Willham, and Russet talk about the damage Salem Rose had caused. As Milfre reunites with Stampy, she calls the attention of everyone in the room. After getting a census of the abilities each being had, Shadow Mari's being Shadow, she tells the group about the fight against Salem Rose they were about to take part in. Everyone except Lock and Russet gather in the time machine, with Russet staying in Lavasteam and Lock holding onto the machine, and the group leaves for 2007 Rapoville.
Vs. Salem Rose[edit]
When they arrive outside the Village Bridge, Shadow Mari waits as Milfre attempts to talk down Salem Rose, keeping Wilfre from leaving the area, but when Milfre fails to save him, Shadow Mari, along with Kamalah and Milfre, fight Robigo. Shadow Mari helps slow Robigo down, but Robigo eventually gains the upper hand, forcing Shadow Mari into a state where she cannot fight. However, Milfre douses Robigo's leg, causing the three of them to crash to the ground. Shadow Mari joins Milfre and Kamalah in removing the Lavasteam Orb from Robigo, but she jumps into the air and attacks Salem Rose with it.
Robigo then attacks Salem Rose with a stream of fire, and Milfre's team, including Shadow Mari, join in on the assault. However, unbeknownst to the team, Salem Rose absorbs their energy and releases a supercharged blast of ruby energy, knocking out everyone except Wilfre and destroying all three time machines in the area. When Shadow Mari and Willham wake up, they find Athys and Wilfre pinning Salem Rose down and stripping him of his power. When Wilfre kills Salem Rose and Milfre wakes up, she, Shadow Mari, and Willham help bring their unconscious friends back to the Dev Grove. Once there, Shadow Mari helps carry Lock back to 2042 Rapoville. When she arrives, Mari had just left Creation Hall and the two lock eyes. In fear, Shadow Mari returns to the Dev Grove.
Blank Slates 2[edit]
Searching For Miah[edit]
In the Dev Grove, Joe explains that the Droogle Leader had gone missing, taking his sword with him. Shadow Mari takes to the skies to try and find him, but her search fails. Eventually, Joe decides that they need to find Miah. Joe brings Alana and David Franco back to the Developer's Grove, and he tells them that after the development of Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter, he hid himself in canon as Mike's father - Mr. Row. Shadow Mari gives Alana and Franco new disguises to help them remain anonymous in 2007 - Lyrica and Daniel James respectively.
Lyrica, Daniel James, and Shadow Mari all arrive in Belleview, and Shadow Mari possesses a car to help get them to the carnival. Once they arrive, Shadow Mari waits in the parking lot as Mr. Row and his family enter the carnival. Some time later, Lyrica returns to the car for some Shadow, as Mr. Row had presumably erased his memories. Shadow Mari gives Lyrica some Shadow to restore his memories, and Lyrica returns to the carnival. Even later, Lyrica and Daniel James return with Mr. Row, and Shadow Mari greets him, only to find out he was GenericChallenge in disguise.
Rescuing Miah[edit]
Shadow Mari drives the group back to Belleview and takes them back to the Developer's Grove, where Joe and Willham interrogate GenericChallenge to find Miah. He reveals that he was stealing from The Void due to Mayo's arrogance, and Shadow Mari tells him that she replaced her. Shadow Mari also listens as Joe explains that canon has become dubious, with static appearing over the timeline. When GenericChallenge reveals Miah's location, Shadow Mari returns to Belleview with him, Alana, and Franco.
In Mr. Row's basement, Shadow Mari helps rescue Miah from GenericChallenge's binds. When Miah refuses to cooperate with Lyrica and Daniel James, she douses him in Shadow, only to realize he never erased his memories. She then undoes Lyrica and Daniel James, reverting them to Alana and Franco. Miah apologizes and listens to Franco, who explains their situation. Miah agrees to return to the Grove and help them, so Shadow Mari leads the group back. In the Developer's Grove, Miah creates the Stylus and explains how it works, handing it over to Joe. Joe then uses the stylus to send Willham and Shadow Mari back to The Void.
Battle with the Jungle Creature[edit]
Willham and Shadow Mari reappear outside the Two Realms Plains where they see the Shadow Squid attacking and reopening the Shadow Hole. Shadow Mari takes to the skies and asks Apprentice what had been going on. When she doesn't answer, Shadow Mari helps the rest of the group fight the Shadow Squid, and the combined efforts of Lambert and Violet take it down.
Shadow Mari and the group then head towards the Wii Village, where the Tree King had starting attacking again, and Shadow Mari attempts to steal its Shadow. However, the Tree King is too large to be controlled, so Shadow Mari calls out the Jungle Creature. After recruiting Lambert to defeat the Tree King and he is unable to kill the Tree King himself, he returns to the screeners to get their help. Willham agrees to help him, while Shadow Mari helps treat injuries and relocate the deceased Droogles. After the Tree King and Jungle Creature are defeated, Shadow Mari seals up the Baki Temple to keep the Tree King from reappearing.
Transforming Jinxy[edit]
After the battle, Shadow Mari and Jinxy meet, and she shows him the night sky she created for The Void. He then asks her to bring him the Jungle Creature's Mask. She obliges and brings him the broken pieces of the mask, and he slowly puts them up to his face. When they touch his face, he glows a brilliant green, and the mask fuses together, and he is given a shield and spear. Shadow Mari asks if he feels okay, and Jinxy responds by saying he feels better than ever, dubbing himself Jungle Raposa.
Blank Slates 3[edit]
Assisting in the Shadow Village[edit]
Shadow Mari is next seen two years later in a meeting with Gingerfre and Red Dragon, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the new Shadow Village. In the meeting, Gingerfre complains about not being able to lead the way he wants to, and as he prepares to leave the village in the hands of Shadow Mari and Red Dragon, Tombstone erupts from the Drawn to Life Village. The three of them fly outside to see what the commotion was, and while Gingerfre takes the opportunity to rally his troops behind him, Shadow Mari and Red Dragon simply teleport over to the fight.
When they get there, however, Tombstone had already been defeated by the combined powers of Lambert and Crawler's LARPing Group, so Shadow Mari and Red Dragon discuss the whereabouts of the other Guardians and Willham. The other Guardians appear from their meeting in the Developer's Grove, bringing Aly back with them, and Shadow Mari explains that Willham was on a "business trip" at the moment.
However, before they can begin to contain Tombstone's Shadow, Gingerfre and his Shadow army arrive at the village and begin attacking Tombstone's corpse. Their Shadow attacks are able to revive the monster and give it enough power to encase the Drawn to Life Village in a bubble. Taking charge, Shadow Mari and the Guardians then lead the surviving fighters and the refugees of the Drawn to Life Village to the Two Realms Plains.
Addressing The Void[edit]
Once they arrive, Shadow Mari and Mill address the villagers, telling them that since Tombstone was still alive and was hiding underground, the best course of action would be to ascend to the Developer's Grove for the time being. Jinxy quells the chattering in the Plains, telling everyone that the Jungle Creature had intentions to destroy The Void, which the Five Aldarks, terrorists from the Shadow Village, claim would be good. However, Shadow Mari defuses the situation by turning the conversation back to ascending and dismissing the villagers.
After the meeting, Shadow Mari meets with the various mayors and tells them that they needed to return to their villages and spread the word to ascend if people didn't plan on fighting. However, Shadow Mari decides to take on The Next Chapter Village, as Repair Guy needed a break from his role as mayor. When Shadow Mari makes it to The Next Chapter Village, she starts as Fiora and Nolan's house, meeting Stocking in the process. After giving them the news, the four of them split up to inform the rest of the villagers that they would need to stay or ascend, and Shadow Mari leaves.
Fight in the Shadow Village[edit]
Shadow Mari is next seen flying towards the Shadow Village as Tombstone had erupted from it. She is suddenly joined by Willham, who had just arrived from this business trip, and she tells him, annoyed, that they had to fight Tombstone again, so the two of them head into combat. The two of them meet up with Red Dragon and Abyss in the sky, and they realize that Tombstone was adapting on the fly to their attacks, and Willham realizes that Tombstone's eyes weren't made of Droogles, so he begins deleting them. With Red Dragon and Abyss continuing to attack, Shadow Mari returns to the edge of the village to meet with the incoming fighters.
At the village edge, she meets up with the Four Guardians, Aly, and Sandal, giving them all tasks for the fight, though she states that Aly couldn't do much against Tombstone. After strategizing with Lambert and Sandal, Aly tells Shadow Mari to join the fight and that she would take over informing the fighters on what to do. Shadow Mari thanks her and joins the fight, landing on Red Dragon's back and strategizing with Abyss. After determining that it would be a war of attrition, Shadow Mari begins attacking on the ground, stealing some of Tombstone's Shadow for herself, and after about ten minutes of nonstop fighting, Tombstone collapses into a tidal wave as a list ditch attack.
After Tombstone's defeat, Shadow Mari goes to the edge of the village, absorbing some of the far reaching effects of Tombstone's final attack and meeting back up with Willham. She asks him why he didn't return when the Droogle Leader sent a message to everyone, and Willham says that he never got that message, dissolving to let Shadow Mari check his glasses. As she goes through his glasses, Tombstone begins to reform thanks to the plans of the Five Aldarks, so Shadow Mari sends the Guardians to go confront Gingerfre's lackeys, one of whom was a double agent for the Aldarks, as she attempts to bring Willham back. Unfortunately, she is unable to bring him back until after the Shadow Village is bubbled by Tombstone, so the surviving fighters all retreat to the Guardians' HQ.
Remembering The Past[edit]
When they arrive, Willham and Shadow Mari ask everyone to wait outside, bringing only the Guardians, Mayors, and generals of the armies inside with them. Beginning their tactical meeting, Shadow Mari goes over the beings that they know Tombstone had assimilated, and Willham goes over the fighters who were missing after the last battle, including Lambert and Red Dragon. While talking, Willham explains that Tombstone had absorbed the smoke of a screener when it absorbed Mill, so Abyss and Jinxy ask about the smoke. Offering the intel to the group and asking for secrecy, Willham explains the origins of Monk and the Four Guardians, while also explaining when Mayo had brought Shadow Mari to life all those years ago.
After hearing Willham's story, Alme Palmette and Heathers arrive with God Ray Artifacts for the screeners, made by Hans, and Shadow Mari puts on her new God Ray earring. When Sorcerer and Pot also enter the HQ with news that the villages were intact underneath the bubbles, Willham kicks everyone out and asks Shadow Mari and the remaining Guardians, Violet and Hoopz to join him on the roof. Addressing the crowd of people outside the HQ, they explain that two teams would be needed to explore the bubbles, and everyone else would head to the Wii Village to be given God Ray abilities by Hans. However, as Willham and Shadow Mari return inside, they are confronted by Fiora and Nolan.
Fiora believes that Shadow Mari was behind Tombstone's attacks, and when confronted, Shadow Mari promises that she's not behind the attacks, but does explain how she had dealt with the Jungle Creature in the past and had sealed in in the Baki Temple years ago. After explaining all this to Fiora, she apologizes, and the group starts figuring out how to find the Guardians. Willham uses the Compass Array to discover that Tombstone split Mill into three bodies, so after the screeners relinquish their God Ray artifacts to Fiora and Nolan, the five of them head to the Two Realms Plains to get the jump on Tombstone.
Fight at the Plains[edit]
When the five of them arrive, Shadow Mari notices that the Shadow Hole was beginning to open again, and watches Lambert get tossed out of it. While Fiora runs up to him, Sandal sniffs the Shadow still inside of his body, and Shadow Mari begins to seal the Shadow Hole for the final time. As Tombstone emerges proper, Shadow Mari finished sealing the Shadow Hole and jumped into the fight, working with the arriving Fox to create elemental globs of Shadow to attack Tombstone with, though they don't do much. She then notices that Tombstone wasn't attacking them back, so she tells everyone to stop fighting. As they stop, Tombstone collapses into a puddle, though all of the pieces of Tombstone that had been cut off or thrown around the battlefield begin exploding into a bubble, encasing the entire Plains and forcing the fighters back to HQ.
Final Plan[edit]
When they get back to HQ, they all notice the Tree King's sudden reappearance, and after learning about what had occurred in the Drawn to Life and Shadow Village's bubbles and the Wii Village, Shadow Mari joins Willham on the HQ roof once again, addressing the thirty or so fighters still left in The Void. Willham reminds them that the villages were still intact, though when Gingerfre tells everyone that the Shadow Village was completely gone, Shadow Mari insists that they could rebuild once Tombstone was gone. When Hans asks for help gathering his equipment from the Wii Village to provide everyone with God Ray Charms, Shadow Mari asks Jinxy to travel with him for protection.
As Hans leaves with Jinxy, Fox, and a chunk of the Shadow army, the screeners urge everyone else to stay put until they return, and Willham calls Shadow Mari and the Guardians inside, where he teaches the Guardians how to utilize their abilities from Monk. Once they are able to tap in to what they could do, Shadow Mari suggests that a Guardian is stationed at each bubble during the final fight. However, as they finish planning, Temte Mapleleaf calls them all back outside, as Tombstone had summoned Red Dragon's body from the Shadow Village's bubble and Drakon's body from the Drawn to Life Village's bubble. The group of fighters split up to tackle the dragons as Tombstone proper appears from the Two Realms Plains' bubble, so Shadow Mari stays behind to fight Tombstone.
Fight for The Void[edit]
During the final fight against Tombstone, Shadow Mari continues to attack how she had before, stealing some of Tombstone's Shadow for herself. After a piece of a building is transformed by the Guardians to be a massive knight, fighting against Tombstone, Shadow Mari flies into the air and decides to shoot a beam of Shadow into the Color Vat, just as she had done while repopulating The Void, though instead of creating life, she let the Color follow her beam until it nearly collided with her body, redirecting the beam to pierce Tombstone.
As the fight raged on, Shadow Mari couldn't do much to stop Tombstone, and after nearly everyone in The Void was ejected by Temte to save them, the screeners and the Guardians met back inside the HQ as Temte transformed into the Master of the Abyss and the Tree King entered his ninth and final life. As the Master fully formed, it peered into the HQ, ejecting the Guardians and Shadow Mari into canon, saving them from the fight.
Possessing Jowee[edit]
As Shadow Mari was canonically a piece of Jowee's Imagination, Shadow Mari is sent into his consciousness by the Master. However, since Jowee was still comatose after his fight against Salem Rose, she finds herself in a dark expanse with a floor resembling Shadite. However, she quickly meets Jowee's subconscious, who is still ecstatic about defeating Salem Rose. Shadow Mari immediatley deduces that he was in a coma, and asks Jowee to trust her. When they shake hands, Shadow Mari suddenly comes to the front of Jowee's mind, taking over his body and enveloping it in her Shadow.
Now awake, Shadow Mari scares Dr. Cure, who runs to get Mari, and escapes from the hospital, coming face to face with Mildew and Banny, who are prepared to fight her. Shadow Mari, not wanting to fight, flies through the air and heads towards Shadow City, though she is spotted by Mari as she flies, who now thinks that Aldark had returned.
