–Athys
Athys Courania is a Raposa created by GuyThatExists that appears in the short story Circi Loves Wilfre as the main antagonist and the short stories Salem Rose Pt. 1 and Salem Rose Pt. 2 as a deuteragonist. A recreation of her also appears in Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (Wii) as Boss. She also appears in Bavel's Diary as a main character.
In the 1800s, Athys was a recurring visitor to Rapoville while Bavel was mayor, helping him uncover the Book of Life, reintroduce the Creator, complete the World Gate Project, and gave him the Book of Imagination. When his life was endangered, she gave him some of her blood, granting him rust fur abilities. She would go on to be Rapoville's first Deputy Mayor under Mayor Tegean.
Much later on, she became Circi's grandmother, and worked at the Ink Factory before the attack on Rust City. She escaped to Rapoville with her daughter Percate and Circi, although when she tried to return to Rust City, she was attacked, killed, and assimilated by the Shadow, becoming Boss. During this time, she was given a Time Machine by Kamalah and Salem Rose, allowing her to travel through time, becoming one of the most knowledgeable beings in the realm. She would go on to corrupt Wilfre and Circi with Shadow, and she was killed by the Hero after Wilfre's first attack. In her afterlife, she lives in The Wasteland with the rest of the ghosts.
Appearance
In her Raposa form, Athys has orange fur and curly, pink hair, wears a dark red blouse and dark pants. She also carries a cane with her for stability.
In her Shadow form, Athys' hair is revitalized, turning rust-colored once more, and her fur turns dark with Shadow. An aura of Shadow appears around her, and arms from her Boss form can be shot out from this aura.
Story
Birth and Early Life
Athys' parents are currently unknown, but it is known that she was born in Rust City in the late-1560s as a Rust-Furred Raposa, granting her longevity and enhanced durability. While living in the city, she would become friends with Pheme, though the two would lost touch when Pheme met Eugene Shinar.
Meeting Migdal Bavel
Eventually, in the mid-1800s, Athys received a letter from Mayor Bavel requesting her presence in Rapoville to help find the Book of Life. When she arrived at the village, she met Bavel, his wife Peliossa, and his daughter Tegean, while also reconnecting with Pheme. Throughout the next year, Athys would stay with Pheme whenever she visited the village. After Bavel gives a speech to the villagers announcing his belief in the Creator, he and Athys take a trip through the woods to Deadwood, where she uses the Book of Imagination, given to her by the Creator, to wake the tree up and access the Book of Life, hidden inside.
The World Gate Project
After returning to Rapoville with the Book of Life, Athys and Bavel began studying the powers of both Books. In their study, they attempt to write in the Book of Life but are scolded by the Creator. While studying the Book of Imagination however, Athys traverses Bavel's Imagination Battle, and Bavel traverses hers. During the next two weeks, Athys and Bavel would work on creating a portal system, using the Book of Life and Book of Imagination as a base. After putting pieces of each book in a small box, taking a single strand of Athys's fur, and running a current through the system, the two of them created a small portal, the first prototype World Gate.
Once funding for the Beach Gate was acquired, Athys and Pheme began shaving to have enough power for the gate while Bavel and Athys began working on it. During this time, the Creator also commissioned a new Creation Hall, so Tubbub is brought onto the project with Athys and Bavel to help lighten the load. On the day the Beach Gate and Creation Hall were unveiled, Athys sailed to Surf Beach, where the other end of the Beach Gate was constructed. After using her fur to power the gate, both ends of the gate powered on and she stepped into Rapoville. As the rest of the village partied on the beach, Athys, Pheme, and Bavel's family drink Banya Ale in Rapoville to celebrate. During this celebration, Athys gifts Bavel the Book of Imagination to keep.
Shortly after, plans for more gates begin, including a gate to Snowy-Snow Mountain and a gate to Rust City. When the Rust City Gate began construction, Athys supported Bavel in producing a way for other to build their own gates. Meanwhile, while Bavel goes on a retreat to meet the Raposa who were exiled from the village under his father, Athys and Tubbub finalize the last of the new gates in Rapoville. Afterwards, Athys would head back to Rust City to build the other side of the gate.
Meeting Strange Beings
The next year, Athys would return to Rapoville to help study the Book of Imagination, and eventually was brought together with Bavel, his family, and Anago to supposedly receive an adventure from the Creator. When given her task however, she was told not to share it with the other Raposa. According to her later account, her instruction had something to do with meeting her future self, presumably the Shadow version of herself time-travelling with Stick and Stick 2. Later on, after Bavel's trip to the Human realm, Bavel asked Athys to give Robert Row, a human, a tour of Rust City, so she obliges.
Saving Bavel's Life
Shortly after Robert's visit, she would be called back to Rapoville by Peliossa to help retrieve Bavel from Frostwind's Shrine. After reading through his entire journal, she believes that his overuse of the Book of Imagination is what caused him to go comatose. She begins to regret giving him the Book of Imagination in the first place and is afraid of giving him a blood transfusion to wake him, though she admits that she might not have a choice. While waiting with Bavel, she asked the Creator what Bavel saw in Frostwind's Imagination Battle, but the Creator would not answer, writing all of this in Bavel's Diary as it happened.
Shortly after this, Bavel started making strange noises, so Athys fetched Dr. Kurare to perform a blood-transfusion, granting Bavel slight rust abilities such as longevity. Continuing to write in his diary, Athys reveals that she would not tell Peliossa about his journal or the Imagination Battles to ease her nerves. She would also reveal that she met herself in her entry. After finishing her writing, she glued two pages together, concealing her entry from Bavel. She would leave the next day when Bavel woke up, forgetting her satchel in the village.
Appointed Deputy Mayor
Shortly after Bavel returned to Frostwind's Shrine and encountered Amhuluk, he began to slip into insanity, which caused Peliossa to ask for Athys' help once more. Athys tries to take the Book of Imagination away from him, but he refuses, running away into the forest. After Bavel disappeared for good, Tegean was appointed mayor, and she appointed Athys as her Deputy Mayor to help deal with the stress of the office. It is unknown how long Athys served as Deputy Mayor, though she would eventually return to Rust City once her term was finished, eventually becoming the head of the Ink Factory long before it was overrun by Shadow.
Immigration to Rapoville
Athys is next seen in the early-1970s when she, Circi, and Percate leave Shadow City to seek refuge in Rapoville. They are met by the Mayor, Wilfre, and Wilfre's father Steven. The six of them head to Percate's new home and settle in.
Death and Resurrection
In 1980, Athys begins to miss her old home, and she eats a Kaorin Berry in an attempt to make her way through the City Gate. The berry eventually kills Athys, and her body is collected by Shadow creatures. They decide to revive her using Ink, and she resumes her former role as the head of the Ink Factory, now overrun with Shadow.
Serving Salem Rose
Two years later, Athys is still working in the factory when a time-travelling Kamalah and Robigo approach her and bring her back to 2042 to help Miles with his mission to punish Wilfre. She is taken to Deadwood, where Salem Rose, a corrupted version of Miles that wants to kill Wilfre, tells her to gather intel on Wilfre's movement throughout time. She begrudgingly agrees to gather intel, and she uses a Time Machine to return to 1982.
When she arrives in 1982, she finds two Shadow creatures arguing about what happened to her. Athys returns to her desk and complains about Salem Rose ordering her around. Eventually, she has the idea to use the time machine to gather intel for herself, so she takes the Shadow creatures, naming them Stick and Stick 2, and jumps into the time machine, beginning her journey throughout time. Some time during this journey, she went back to the mid-1800s to visit her past self.
After an unknown amount of time for her, Athys returns to moments after she originally left without Stick or Stick 2, and with a nearly destroyed Time Machine. She pulls out her journal and looks at her notes. She flips to a page focusing on Steven and realizes that she was supposed to kill him on that day. Sighing, she leaves the factory and kills Steven in his home. The trail of Shadow she leaves behind causes Cricket to suspect Percate and Circi in the murder.
Confronted by Milfre's Team
While Athys is busy killing Steven, Milfre, Kamalah, and Jowee from 2042 and Willham and Shadow Mari from The Void appear in 1982 Rapoville. Shadow Mari focuses on Athys, waiting for her to create a portal to leave the village. When Athys returns to the Ink Factory, Shadow Mari creates a portal to follow after her, and the group appears in her Lair. Athys is shocked to see Milfre and Kamalah again, and Kamalah explains what had happened with Salem Rose since she left. Milfre fixes the time machine and plans to take it to 2007, but Athys tells them to go to Lavasteam back in 2042 first. The group leaves and Athys returns to her work.
Corrupting Circi and Wilfre
Five years later, Wilfre gets told by the Mayor to not draw in the Book of Life, and Wilfre angrily goes home. When he gets there, he finds Athys waiting for him inside. She gives him a journal and asks him to get the Book of Life from Creation Hall. He returns with the book, and she asks him for the Pen Percate had given him 16 years ago. He hands her the pen she shoves him out of the way, taking the Book of Life and drawing in it. She explains that she returned to Shadow City earlier in her life, was killed, and reborn again as a Shadow being. She draws in the Book, creating more Shadow, and then leaves to return to the Ink Factory.
Circi and Wilfre eventually make their way to the Ink Factory and lure Athys out of the building. She berates Wilfre for telling the truth and then attacks the two with Shadow. Circi and Wilfre, using their earring and pen respectively, channel the Shadow and attack Athys, turning her into a giant Shadow monster. The two run away back to Shadow City's Outer Walls, and Athys follows them. As Circi disappears, Athys grabs Wilfre, steals his pen, and drags him back into the city.
Athys tells Wilfre about his plan to rival the Creator, and forces Wilfre to help her. She tells Wilfre about four generals that he needs to corrupt - The Icy Dragon, Frostwind, The Ancient Tree, Deadwood, The Giant Fish, Angler King, and The Armored Giant, Scorpion.
Salem Rose vs. Wilfre
When Wilfre begins his attack on Rapoville in 2007, he is intercepted by Salem Rose and two of them fight. Eventually, Wilfre leads him to Ink Factory, where Boss and Wilfre's Scorpion help fight Salem Rose. Athys pins him up against the wall with a multitude of arms while the Scorpion begins to stab Salem Rose. Eventually, he breaks away and chases Wilfre back to the outskirts of Rapoville. Athys reverts to her Raposa form and takes the Pen, creating a portal to the outskirts of town.
When she arrives at the scene, she finds Salem Rose on the ground preparing to attack with Color and ruby energy. She uses the pen to absorb both of his attacks, and she eventually drains him of all of his abilities. When Willham erases Salem Rose's Ruby Earring from existence, Wilfre panics, but Athys reassures him that it wasn't Circi's earring. After Wilfre kills Salem Rose, Athys takes him back to the Factory and closes the portal.
Death and Recreation
After Wilfre is defeated at the hands of the Hero, Athys floods the arena with Shadow, chasing the Hero out of the arena. Unaware of them still being in the room, she reconstructs the Pencil. When she turns around to leave the room, the Hero thrusts the Legendary Sword through her body, killing her. After this, Circi returns to the Ink Factory to kill Boss after breaking their vow to protect Wilfre. However, she finds that Athys was killed, and she is told to collect the Artifacts of Power to resurrect her and Wilfre. She is recreated by Circi during the events of Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (Wii) using Wilfre's Bad Ink but this recreation is subsequently killed by the Hero.
Life as a Ghost
After Circi discovers the ghosts of Wilfre's Wasteland, Athys, one of the many ghosts, promises Circi that everything will be alright. Athys is one of the more prominent members of the community in the Wasteland, helping with the Stellar Showdown Housing Project and welcoming new people to the island. According to Milfre, she tells stories about her entire life, including her time serving the Shadow. Athys is one of the ghosts to witness Salem Rose destroy the Housing Project and steal the Lavasteam and Galactic Jungle Orbs. When Milfre returns to the island, she is among those who witness Meeny appear on the island, and she watches Milfre absorb the Watersong Orb. She would later speak with Mari about her time as Deputy Mayor, helping with her transcription of Bavel's Diary.
